Default Auto vs 6mt

I beat a 6mt from a stop to 115mph. Got a better launch and slowly pulled away. At 115mph, his front bumper was about 2 feet behind my rear bumper. We pulled off at the next exit and started talking. He couldn't believe that he lost to an auto. Gotta love that Nismo CAI and an Auto.

IMO the 6mt driver did not shift really well. I think a good driver that can shift gears really fast can beat the auto.. but not much.

Either that, or does the CAI give the auto that much of an edge?

Actually, I was really impressed with how smooth his shifts were.

I said this same thing in a post recently. Everyone with a 6MT thinks they are guaranteed to whip a 5AT. It just ain't so. You better be good ie, proficient with recent experience in a standard. There is just a few tenths of a sec between them, so if you get sloppy with one shift, that's the ol' ball game. The better numbers that the rags post are by professional drivers, and they are the best out of multiple times. So many people here just don't get that it is the same car, just different transmissions. Way to go Jay-it must have been the CAI. It gave you at least 130 rwhp, right?!

The launch with the 6MT is much more tricky too. I don't have experience with this 5AT. But it sounds like you can just floor it or even brake torque it. Jaylin, did he bog or have too much wheel spin at the start?

Too much wheel spin. I was powerbraking my auto. I found that the best launch in an auto is right around 3400 rpms.

The CAI had to add at least 65 rwhp!

I was joking. It actually only adds about 50hp.

Only 10hp, you must be crazy. I got ripped off then, that damn guy told me I could beat anything on the road if I bought a $200 CAI. Bastards lied to me. I guess I should go and take it off then.

Jaylin, you're not going to ask for your money back on those 15 hp stickers now are you? They really work, I swear.

You know what .. you have a point ... but prove it to me that you think its more than 10-15 HP .... do you have a before and after results showing +15HP delta?

That would be crazy to think that you can get 50 HP just by using CAI ... the numbers dont addup .. I am not talking about measuring your HP only at one instance .. (perfect run and hiring a professional driver) etc ... I am talking about overall everyday 50 HP ...
I have seen results and they are around 10HP ...+-5 + being good driver and perfect installation and smooth timing ... - would be an idiot redneck that doesnt know what 6th gear is ..
