Default G35 Coupe Reclassed in SCCA SoloII

Anyone thinking about SoloII might take a moment to look at a classing change made as of the end of this year.

SCCA has seen it fit to downclass the G35 Coupe. The 350Z is in B-Stock, along with the RX8 which basically owns and dominates the class. The G35 Coupe was also in this class, however with the added weight and more obtrusive dynamic control system SCCA has placed the G35 Coupe in F-Stock for '06.

This puts the G35 in the same class as the GM F-bodies and Mustangs.

The 350Z will need some more shakedown to catch the RX8; I think the G35 stands a reasonable chance of catching a Camaro/Mustang in F-Stock with a little bit of adjustment and prep.

Should be interesting to see if anyone goes out piloting a G35 Coupe in '06. Depending on how much you can play within the VDC and the alignment adjustments, should be an interesting opportunity.

Of course, since I sold my G35, I won't be the one to try. :P

You've done what?!

Anyway, don't know too much about SCCA. But what about the more obtrusive VDC? I read (from dholly I believe) that the 05 VDC is less obtrusive. Is 06 going the other way? But don't you just turn it off in a race anyway? Or is it against the rule? And what class will you be in 06 if you drive an 04, let's say?

The classification is for competition year '06, not model-year '06.

All G35 coupes are moved to F-Stock regardless of model year. Typically, the middle years of a particular design are not classified outside the remainder except in the case of a major engine change.

Most other changes in a midstream model run are cosmetic or refinement and don't significantly enhance performance.

Interesting. Do you have a link to the news? The scca rulebook hasn't been updated yet. I'd like to see if any other cars get classed differently. If its an autocross where all stock categories compete and use the pax adjustment, then the G35 coupe will get a much better handicap. BS = .821 and FS = .805 that will be pretty helpful.

It's in this month's Fastrack:

Page 8, right-hand column.

Several other cars were reclassed as well, but I'm pretty sure that those changes won't amount to anything. I'm not sure the 350Z could be competitive in FS, let alone the G35 - but it does level the playing field somewhat.

I just found the thing that mentions the change. Though I think it just says that it's being proposed. There's also a section that states the new rules next season.
