I was coming home from a night club tonight with my cousin in my car(no drinking for me), when I was greeted by an eager blueish Lancer Evolution(Not sure what year) on the highway, who was pacing me to do a few highway roll-on races. There was nobody on the road at all, so we played a bit in a few various speed highway pulls... mostly in the 50-120 MPH and 70/80-120 MPH pull range
The cars were fairly close in 60-80 MPH acceleration, but after that.. the bulky G35 pulled convincingly on the EVO. The EVO might have had a small advantage in 50-60, initially... but once we got up to speed, the VQ's grunt impressed me. In one 60-120 MPH pull, I had about a 3-4 car length lead before letting up. We did 5 pulls, and the G35 won all of them.
I'm not sure if this EVO was the RS, MR or the regular EVO VIII and I'm also not sure what year it was... all I know was that it was blue, had a big body-colored spoiler, greyish rims(non-chrome), and a chromed Evolution badge on the corner of the trunk and it was fairly loud.
You'd think an EVO would be able to beat us due to weight... but then again... if it wasn't the EVO MR, it would only have a 5-speed transmission, where we have a 6-speed, larger displacement, and supposedly a slight advantage in coefficient of drag.
My only performance mods are a Z-tube, K&N filter and 3/8" Motordyne spacer. I can only speculate, but based on appearance, the EVO looked stock.
The G35 Coupe is proving itself to be a faster car than it feels like lately.... either that or I always end up playing with people who are bad drivers. Once again, I can only speculate.

partyman won't you be a bit more realistic? don't tweek the story to your advantage. I've noticed your posts and they seem a bit optimistic. your claims are as follows:
you beat your friends 99' Z28 camaro w/ 320hp whp.
doing 120 in a dodge srt-4 is unstable
our Gs can hang with AMGs (depending on what model)
NOW, you've taken an evolution 5 times? it doesn't matter if its an MR, RS,
or regular evo, you're not gonna beat it with a plenum space, a z-tube, and some aluminum pedals. I just drove my uncle's STI yesterday (which is the same speed as the EVO statisticlly) and i can feel a HUGE difference between the G and the STI. i don't know if you've driven an EVO or an STI yet but do it and you'll know its faster. it pulls much quicker and the STI has the ability to hit a top speed of 190 if the governor is taken off
maybe the guy didn't have as much balls as you

every AMG will whore the crap outta our G's.
the STI is MUCH faster than the EVO.
an inline 4 cylinder vehicle w/ turbo is not going to have the same high end as a NA 6 cylinder. so i dont discount his story. however, there are other factors to consider... maybe he over reved.
I've never raced an AMG, and I never claimed that a G could beat one. All I said was that there are different models of AMG's, and not all of them are uber-elite race cars... only the higher end ones.
I've test driven an EVO and an STI, but never drive one flat out on a road in a race situation.... and an STI is much faster than an EVO in straight line acceleration, but lacks severely in handling capabilities when compared against an EVO. I have, however, riden along with both an an autocross course.
The only cars I have raced in my G is my friends Camaro Z28(which, by the way.. now has a blown motor as of about a week and a half ago ), a Lexus GS430, some really old Ferrari from the mid-early 1980's, and the EVO last night.
And an SRT-4 IS NOT a stable car. Anyone who has ever tried autocrossing one knows that, and I can't believe that you really think an EVO could hit 190 MPH if it wasn't limited. The car's top speed is drag-limited at 150-152 MPH... which means that the engine(in stock form) can't produce enough power to make the car go faster than that. A G35 without a governer is rumored to be able to hit about 160-163 MPH. If an EVO could hit 190 MPH in stock form, do you realize that(based on the cars powerband tendencies) you wouldn't even be able to get into top gear in that car unless you were doing about 100 MPH?
I have no doubts that an EVO would rip a G35 apart off the line, but that isn't the type of racing that we did.

are you guys kidding me? the EVO and STI are almost the same speed.
we're talking a .1 second difference in 0-60, quarter mile, and 0-100.
don't even tell me .1 second is a BIG difference because ITS NOT. but the difference between the g35 and the EVO/STI is 1 second, and 1 second IS a big difference

what evo are you talking about?
last time i checked the, STI ran 4.4 0 -60, and the evo ran 5.0
0-60 ...1/4 times are only a few statistics... you also have to take into account of their weight and our weight.. their 4s vs our 6s etc
that doesn't make sense... those numbers are after the fact that they weigh what they weigh and that they're 4 or 6 cylinder engines. the statistics are what proves how fast they are...

they both run 4.7 and 13.2-13.3 quartermiles... only the 2006 EVO will run 4.5 0-60 and 13.0 quarter mile.
I recently posted a couple of responses in this section, explaining that our G's high speed performance is much more impressive than what the 0-60 and 1/4mile numbers show. The reason is gearing of the higher gears, which cannot be tested within the 1/4mile. I believe Partyman's story.
Just a side note, I checked the gearing spec of the new IS350. Even though the car will be quite a bit faster than the G in 0-60 and 1/4 stats, it won't pull on us much (if at all) at higher speeds. And for 6th gear acceleration, we will toast it. Mark my word. I bow down to the Nissan engineers for truly implementing the soule of a sports car in the G -- speed in every corner, every gear.

I believe you. Why would someone lie about that? I would understand if it's a newbie trying to show off or something, but come on Partyman is an oldie on here.
starting from stopped position, the evo will have the advantage(cux its lighter and awd)...
but like partyman said, starting from 60 mph the g will have the advantage.
on the freeway, stock vs stock, i'll put my money on the g
