Default hey, new here...

hey guys, wutsup...
this is my first time posting here
i've got an 03 g in diamond graphite w/ 5AT (i'll get some pics up sumtime). i just got it this past december, but it's just a little too quiet... i've been reading and searching through all these threads here, but i just can't seem to make up my mind about the intake. I've heard that bang for buck the z-tube/k&n is the best deal, i've heard that the z-tube goes better with the stillen airbox, and i've heard that a CAI is bad because of possible waterlock and the air isn't colder because of how hot the intake gets since it's right next to the engine plus the intake itself is metal, on the other hand, i've also read that the CAI is good because of better sound and waterlock really isn't an issue and u do get colder air...

what i want is a good overall deal with the intake - nice sound, a little more power, and perhaps more mileage. i also don't want to spend near $350 for the intake, so what do u guys recommend: z-tube/k&n? z-tube/stillen? CAI? w/ bypass?

Thanx, Ivan

You don't really need the bypass on the CAI. It's a nice feature to have, but really not necessary.

Smile upgrades

Stillen sells the K&N CAI, the Z tube will net you about 2hp per my performance guy Justin at Infiniti of Scottsdale; I mean the man works there and told me "not worth it"; the CAI IS worth it though as is a nice cat back exhaust (I would recommend Stillen or Borla) and perhaps a grounding kit and underdrive pulleys. My next mod is a plenum spacer. For cosmetics I recommend clear corners, aluminum pedals, a billet grille, sheepskins and a nice dash cover for protection, I also have a nice set of aftermarket wheels. Have fun!

go to g35driver.com. some guys are selling thier used AEM and Injen intakes for like $150 shipped. i have a cold air intake and i love it. this is my 2nd car with cold air intake. sounds great, feels great. the air isn't warmer on the CAI, the filter sits far from the engine. temperatures are way cooler down there. more surface area with the cone filter on the CAI too (compared to stock box).

You need to learn the differences between the short-tube CAIs (misnomer, IMO) with or without heat shield (like the JWT PopCharger) and the 'true' long-tube CAIs that draw air from outside of the engine compartment.

i think im just gonna go on ahead and get the z-tube/k&n combo,, the pop charger does get hotter air since its heat shield doesnt really protect it as much,, but thanx anyways for all the info...
