Infiniti to get entry-level coupe based on Z

Along with the impending refreshening of Nissan's modern-day Z, the internet has been abuzz for about a year with rumors of a new smaller and less expensive coupe based on the same platform. This rear-wheel-drive coupe would compete against the upcoming Toyota/Subaru sports coupe, which also are also to be driven by the rear wheels. What we haven't expected, though, is an Infiniti version of this 240SX revival. According to rumors, the Nissan version would get a small displacement four-banger while its big brother from Infiniti would get a V6 displacing 2.5 liters.

Inside Line reports that this new entry-level Infiniti will be displayed at an as yet unnamed auto show sometime within the next year. Color us awfully excited at the prospect of RWD coupes from the likes of Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai and now Infiniti, all of which are set for the American market. Affordable performance never goes out of style, even when gas prices are this high.

i think that would lessen the infiniti brand

I imagine it is being done for 3 reasons

1. To offer more diversity and variety within the infiniti brand
2. To offer a more fuel efficient model with our changing gas prices
3. To compete with other "efficient" brands and break into the european market

the AE86 looks like a mix between the last gen celica and a tC.
Sounds like a great starting price, at that I'd probably get it if rwd.
1.5L should be stingy with the gas

NOPE! its NOT rumored anymore, its been comfirmed by Toyota and Subaru. They're gonna collaborate on this one, Toyota is gonna build the chassis and Subie will build the motor (Boxer FTW!). Now specs on the motor (rumored to be 2.0 or 2.5 turbo or both) havent been comfirmed but what has been comfirmed is that it will be FR and Toyota and Subaru will each sell the car as their own.

Nissan's Silvia successor has also been comfirmed and the project has been kickstarted inside nissan following news of Toyota/Subaru's RWD compact coupe.

Sounds like Toyota is finally trying to step in the right direction. All they need now is a throwback of the Supra (LF-A??) MR2, and 3rd Gen. SOARER (Lexus SC 1991-2000) but i'm just a wishful thinker hehe

I believe they said the thing is going to be sold as a Toyota as the successor to the AE86 only in Japan, and it's heading here as a Subaru... It would be nice to see the 240SX name revived...
