the 350z is much too large to compete (market-wise) with the 1 series. it's only a foot shorter than the G and the same width. plus the 1 series has a back seat.
both cars weight about 3300lbs. And you couldnt fit a midget in the back of a 135.

marketing standpoint. they don't fit the same demographic. also, how would it fit into the infiniti lineup? a g coupe 4 seater and a g coupe 2 seater? and a nissan 350z that looks just like the g 2 seater? that's way too much competition amongst 1 true brand.

This is interesting...just read in the new Car/Driver mag about the 2010 Nissan 370Z. Not too much info on it, but the say that it will be both lighter and more powerful, as well as being both wider and shorter than current Z. Lastly, they mention a possibility of a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox from the GT-R....hmmm.....Estimated to arrive at the L.A. show this fall and go on sale early 2009.

Read the same mag. I might just have to put a down on a 370Z as it has, on paper, what I'd like see in a sports car.

yeea looks like only the Z can take on the 1-series. Theres just no way Nissan can squeeze another coupe into the Infiniti lineup without significantly damaging the Z's sales.
Unless they're actually making a new Silvia and wanna make it wear an Infiniti badge. But that would be really stupid, considering that a Silvia is an economy/affordable RWD sports car with a lightweight chassis and a four banger.
bottom line, looks like BMW is gonna have the edge for a while

i dont think there's room right now for another 2 door sport coupe. infiniti doesnt have the market share of BMW. also they need to add a convertible and a full size flagship before considering a car that will, for all intents and purposes, be stealing customers from the g37.
