Trouble with project car

I have a 1988 toyota celica, that im going to use to expand my knowledge about cars. I haven't taken it apart or anything yet. I know the temps have been really freezing lately. But all of a sudden the car wont go in reverse, does anybody know what cause this?

Bad tranny? Tranny Frozen? sounds like a tranny prob.. in my old altima when my car would not go backwards the tranny blew..

no synchro in reverse, next time after you turn the car on, put it in 1st gear then try to put it in reverse again, it should go in, also might want to think of a good gear oil.
