Anyone else see a little G37 in Hyundai's new rear-wheel drive Genesis Coupe?
the V6 model is supposed to be a 3.8L with 310hp so i'm guessing their going after the G and the 3 series. Interior really sucks though and personally i don't trust hyundai.
It may not be all that suprising that there's similarity as, according to one of the mags recently, Hyundai was targeting the G37 in a very big way. As much as I have serious reservations about Hyundai's cars, from what I read though, I have to admit the Genesis coupe is impressive on paper. If they truly can deliver the performance they are claiming for the price they're hinting, then it will be the value play to the G37 that the G37 is to the BMW 335i. I think this is really good, as competition keeps all the car makers on their toes with improvements.
My dad bought my sister a Hyundai back in high school. That car was the biggest piece of crap that WOULD NOT DIE! My dad was about the 5th owner of that car and probably the only person not to play bumper cars in it.
My sister drove it for several months before getting a metro to go to college in. So it got parked, after setting about a year my sister lost her keys and had to drive the Hyundai. It started right up like it had just been turned off!
That being said it was still a piece of crap, reliable, car.

I'm with Gilley on this one. It looks helluva lot better than the G37. The thing looks agressive.
You may be knocking Hyundai's now, but that's what they did to Toyota's and Honda's back in the day and look at them now. If anything Hyundai cars are competiting and many times beating the competition on reviews.
If this thing really retails for say $33k fully loaded, you'll be singing another song. Especially, if these things will be leaving G37's at the light, which it could based on power to weight figures.
IMHO, I think the new Gensis sedans are where the news is at. I mean a full sized sedan with equipment like Bimmer 7 seires and MB S classes for $40k. They have the new Genesis V8 pumping out 350+ hp. Remember all this equipment and power for around $40k. I've read in mags that already Hyundai Sonata's have refinement on par with Accords and Camry's. That means that Hyundai has the opportunity to turn the luxo market on it's head with their new car. Sort of what Lexus did with their LS400 back in the early 90's. I doubt that I need to remind all of you what Lexus has become today...

I think the G37 looks better. The grill on the Genesis looks cheap as does the interior. I also don't like the dip in the rear windows. All that being said, it does look good over all. The performance and price make it pretty appealing too.
Some noteworthy technical bits on the car: (from Motor Trend)
3.8L V-6 info
Peak HP = 310 @ 6000rpm
Weight/hp = 11.6 lbs./ hp. (better than 335i coupe)
Peak TQ. = 263 lb.-ft. @ 4700rpm (7 less than G37, but 500 rpm sooner)
2.0L I-4t
Rated 210hp, 217 tq bla bla bla,
BUT…engine is the product of the same manufacturing alliance that produced the Evo and SRT-4 engines !!! With a stock comp ratio of 9.3, the factory left lots of headroom for tuners, claiming the engines are capable of taking up to 29 lbs. boost !!!
TRANS
6MT, 5AT, or 6AT (from ZF)
DIFF
Torsen LSD (standard equip)
BRAKES
Top models get:
Brembo 4-piston monoblocs on 13.4” cross-drilled (F) and 13.0 solid (R)
Wheels
19” on top models
CHASSIS
Claimed rigidity surpasses previous generation M3 (their benchmark) by 24%
PRICE
Not finalized, but expect $8k spread between base and top models; if base is sub 20K, then it possibly puts the price of a fairly well equipped V-6 model around $25k!! Hyundai claims they are committed to selling the lowest priced 300hp, rear-drive car in the USA.
If Hyundai can pull this off for anything close to that pricing, it will definitely shake up a whole lot of companies.
