Default Drove an M5 today

I drove a 2000 bmw M5 today and it was good fun. Its always fun to take something new for a drive.

Story doesn't end there. I really enjoyed it. I was looking into a porsche for a while and after driving this it gave me the new car bug again. You all know the feeling of a new and exciting drive....almost like the first time you do things with a new woman.... well ok...so I feel like I am cheating on my G here, but I am looking into maybe getting an M3. Any one here own/ have good experience with them. I have been around them a bit, but not enough to know the ins and outs. I guess I am looking for something a bit faster then the G, and maybe a bit more of the German feel.

Looks like you are wanting to spend around the 30-35k range. Look at my vehicle profile..i have drove all the German Bigger hitters and i can tell you that an AMG Mercedes is the way to go. They are tight, head turning, WAY more rare and exclusive than an M, and are so much more ungodly fast than any M class its nuts.

I owned an 01 M3..and it blew up after 6k miles. Actually threw a rod.

I would recommend a 05-06 C55 AMG.
- quite a bit faster than an M3
-NAV is standard
- V8 with Mustang sound
- Mercedes glam to it
- Can easily get one with under 25k miles for 30's.
- Drilled 14" brakes and AMG covered Calipers
-3500lbs
-400lbs torq
-Has a CLK55 Front end and is a few inches longer than a regular C Class (to fit V8 )

I would also recommend a CLK55 AMG (an 05 coupe if you can find one)
-05's have 6 piston front and 4 piston rear 14.8 inch brakes
-Quad exhaust out the back
- a bit faster than the M3
-NAV standard
-400lbs trq
-V8 mustang sound
-Puts you in a more classy club than your everyday M3

but to i will give you the good sides from the M3

Positives
- Great power up top
- Great clutch and linkage
- Tight as hell

Negatives
-Doesn't sound inimidating at all
-NO TORQUE
-Seats arent comfortable if you weight over 190lbs
-Prone to break down
-No NAV/DVD
-Too Unexclusive
-Cheap 30k American Muscle cars will want to race you..and will win most of the time

I also enjoy something that is moddable.... I enjoy doing things myself, and know I can't ever really settle on "fast enough". I haven't too much experience with amg's....

Wi
With their huge and highly tuned V8's they have a ton of power already...both the CLK55 and C55 or can run near a 13.0 quarter @ 110mph..that is practically C6 corvette fast. I just got a Renntech Chip for my CLK55...$1000 and adds 40hp and 40lbs torque.

Owned lots of different types of cars, but I have to admit the E46 M3 was one of the most versatile and do-it-all cars I've ever had. Not only did it do it all, but it did it better than most out there and that's saying a lot. Yes, I did experience some mechanical problems, mostly with the motor, but that's what you get for having one of the most powerful (power output per liter) motors on the market. You have to remember that it's packaged in a spacious coupe that can pretty much do anything you throw at it.

Looking at the new E90 M3 and some of the other options I see today, I almost wish I would have kept her and modded the hell out of her.

I am with you on this. I really enjoy driving a manual transmission.

i concur. on such a torque monster, it would be a lot of fun to have a manual. although i will say the trannies in the AMGs are pretty solid. still a fun car to drive overall.

I would have to have a manual.... No autos for me. Takes away the fun and sports car aspect of the car.

Drive any AMG car and that feeling will change very quickly. I just never liked any C series car till the current one. They all looked like rejects from the VW Beetle factory.
