Default Mitsu makes no sense

You guys probably know more about these kind of cars than i do but i know that Mitsu is in trouble...i also know that they are really tying to make their Eclipse to start selling. Instead of that pussy 6 banger why don't they put in the EVO's engine in them. Is there something I'm missing here?

I was a little confused about your post....but I think I understand

I think it was stupid to put the V6 in the eclipse. They should have kept the turbo 4 like they had in the previous generation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Evo engine is a turbo 4-cylinder? Mitsubishi has been in financial trouble for years, I suspect due to the fact that they are in bed with Chrysler. I had a '07 Eclipse GS-T and absolutely LOVED that car! It was so much fun to drive, and everytime I see one on the streets now, I reminesce. Then I got a '01 Eclipse GT which was one of the most uninspiring cars to drive. Hated that car. I also hate the latest rendition too. Can't tell if the car is coming or going. Must have been a advertising nightmare trying to film the car in just the right angles to make it look good.
Anyways, in answer to your question, it's all about market share, price points, and overlapping business. They don't want the Eclipse (which is considered a entry-level "sporty" coupe) to canibalize and interfere with the EVO's market share. Keep in mind the EVO is just a Lancer with more performance.

i'm assuming you meant '97 GS-T? those were one of the last good product Mitsu put out really. fast, fun, tunable - the 95-99 GST and GSX rivaled and IMO beat anything that honda has ever put out. as long as reliablility isn't in question.
i had an 00 montero sport 4wd. i loved that truck. it was just an extra vehicle, but i actually liked driving it more than the 98 integra i had at the same time. ever since that era, everything they have put out has been crap. all of the SUVs are so ugly. the newer eclipses (2000+) are worthless when it comes to the aftermarket. i remember when the 00 eclipse came out, they were debating between a turbo 4 and a 6... they went with the 6 due to reliability issues on the turbo'd eclipses before. i think it was a bad move. the styling also went to crap. back in 02 there were a lot of rumors swirling that they'd be out of business in less than 10 years. i think they rebounded a little, but now are getting market shares from hyundai and kia instead of honda, nissan and toyota.

Sorry.....to be more clear....if they want the EVO to sell...why dont they put the EVO's turbo 4 banger in the Eclipse...or in at least one high end trim level. Looks like to me that they sell more EVO's than eclipses as of the ast few years.

i agree. i swear i've seen like 6 different versions/trim levels of the evo be introduced over the past few years. and they are pretty impressive little cars. why not put some of that engineering into the eclipse. you're right. it wouldn't be that difficult. if i'm not mistaken, the old 90's JSpec evos had the same over very similar turbo 4 that the 90's eclipses had.

unfortunately the styling just isn't there. the older eclipses looked good and were quick. a good combination. the current ones don't look fast. even if they were.

the newest gen isnt that bad....the one before it was horrible. i think it would be more appealing with a 250hp turbo 4 banger...

Last time i checked...300hp AWD coupes are becoming a hot item.

Last time i checked...Mitsu has not made a good car decision since 93

my dad had a '94 3000GT SL. it surprises me how much ground mitsu has lost in the past 10+ years. that car was pretty quick, albeit FWD

but it was REALLY nice... the layout inside was excellent for the time. it had controls on the steering wheel for the HVAC, factory disc changer and some other cool little features i can't remember. really advanced for it's time. and it wasn't even the VR4.

compare that to the econo-crap they dribble out nowadays.
