all other things equal, i'd pick the bmw. it sure is nicer inside than the benz. but it has more miles and is $4k more. i am trying to decide if it's worth it. remember, my whole point is to lower my payment and invest that extra cash.

does the 06/07 sport have a better interior? the sport i drove didn't have wood. kind of utilitarian looking considering it's a benz. it had the aluminum inserts.

If you're trying to lower your car payments yet you want to have something that's relatively sporty. Go buy a Civic Si (coupe or sedan). That thing is an awsome car. Fast and a very good handler for a FWD car. That's what I'd do instead of buyin used. It's a Honda so it'll run forever without a hickup.

Or just go borrow Neft's roller skates.

Well one of the cars you're considering is flaming red and the other looks like a toad. So what statement are you "really" trying to make? Huh? Tell us...

The only statement I felt I was making in my BMW's was

"I like to drive a nice, sporty, solid, comfortable car and I have limitless resources to maintain this endevour"

Just wish I could actually live up to that last part! Careful what you wish for 750!

here are my stipulations (ideally)...

german
4 doors
better gas mileage
smaller car payment

i found an 05 bmw 330i sedan M package with 40k miles for $25k
i found an 05 mercedes c240 kompressor sport with 35k miles for $21k

they are both automatics btw. and i know the G is faster and handles better and etc etc. i am looking for something a little more classy, less flashy, but still nice.
update, the red bmw is at a friend of mine's family dealership. he is going to try to match the price of the benz although it will probably be right at their cost. i think i would go for the bmw if that were the case. anyone know legitimately if there are any major issues with either of these cars. please no 'bmws are always in the shop'...
i've had plenty of issues with my G. no car is perfect.

The 3 series in general has been the most reliable for BMW, perhaps because there are less goo-gahs stuffed into them.

FWIW:
In Consumer Reports surveys, the '05 3-series got half black marks for Fuel System and Climate System and average for Body Hardware. Everything else was Full or half red.

The C-class Mercedes got a solid black in Climate Control, half blacks for Body Hardware and Audio System, and average for Brakes and Power Equipment. The remaining were all red or half red.

Good luck in your decision.

i am guessing black is bad. i say that becuase it took me like 3 minutes to figure out why it was so damn hot in the car (benz) when the AC was on. and the sound system (basic MB sound, not bose) SUCKED! the 330i had full harmon kardon.

german cars will not likely have engine troubles....just electrical.

You may want to look at an 06 330i....you might be able to snag one of those in the high 20's. You can also get a nice Z4 for the mid 20's as well....those are as quick as a G.
