On friday i received a nice promotion, although i will have to be scooting around town a bit more. My company is giving me a vehicle allowance of $770 a month. I will likely put about 18k miles a year on whatever car i choose. I was planning on getting something 2 years old and then driving the hell out of it until its has around 80k miles then doing it all over again.
My only requirements are that it is somewhat reliable. I am willing to spend a few hundred extra of my own money to pay for the car as well. I would use the G, but i dont want to put that many miles on it....its promised to go to my younger brother. I listed ones i was interest in above...but if you all have any suggestions let me know.....FYI my boss told me that the car has to be classy w/o being too "race carish" as heput it.
second, the vette and 911 are probably going to be filed away in the "race carish" category.
the current c class is on it's way out, the new one is due out in a couple of months i believe. the c55 is really nice but the c class overall is not too impressive to me, the interior is way too cramped.
the SL is nice but not ideal for a company car especially if you are using it to take clients out.
that leaves you with the cayenne, which is what i'd have picked anyhow.

I am a Wealth Management/Private Client Financial Planner. Basically i work for a bank and its investment firm and do all rich peoples investments, mortgages, retirement plans (Bengals and Reds players) and trust and estate accounts. The promotion didnt give me any different job description...just more responsibility.
I usually dont take clients out as i normally meet them but i am figuring that the new title will make me likely to take clients out more...as the guy before me did. I really love the SL55, especially when i'm not paying for it. But i really like the Cayenne Turbo especially with all the bells and whistles. Plus it probably wont require me to "work at home" the days it snows. You know much about their options?
i don't know much about their options, a friend of mine had the non turbo version for a few months (he only keeps cars for 6 mos at a time) and it was very nice and handled way better than i expected. it's based on the toureg i believe.
i like the makeover they just got though, i saw a black one with the terra cotta colored interior and it really caught my eye.
i have never driven the sl55 but i have driven the sl500 and it was way smaller than i thought it'd be. but it was extremely fun and i love the hardtop convertible.
considering your other 2 cars, i think an suv would be nice to have.

I'm flat out not a mercedes guy but the SL is just gorgeous...i could careless how fast or slow it is or how heavy it is, it's just a beautiful car and that hardtop convertible is a priceless option
So you typically only have one client to take out at time? Cause the coupes listed are sexy as hell, but can only seat one more. Ever think about an RS4, or an S6, those are fast but civilized at the same time.

an RS4 doesnt give me any better options than the C55...basically similar cars as far as performance. The S6 is WAAYYYYY too tame....I'd much rather have an E55

why not go for the e55 then? classy, fast and spacious.

I personally really like the RS4's. I'd say figure out how many passengers you will ever need to take out. The Porsche 911 turbos are really fun and look way better then the regular 911's. Also, I know someone who has one as a daily driver 230,000 miles on it. Hauls his kids and everything. To me the SL55's are fairly small but pretty sexy, again if I am a rich guys wife, I wouldn't sit in the back seat going out to lunch though. I like the cayenne turbos...they are pretty quick...offer a good amount of room too.
Personally, I like the 911 turbos. I almost traded my g in to get a 2002. It was amazing....

You make a great point on that E55, i think i am going to be making some calls this week. I just did some research tonight and it appears that the new C63 AMG will have the 507 hp V8 that the current E63 and other AMG's have....making it the fastest sedan on the market. I ma have to hold off....it will be around 56k....honestly that is a deal considering mercedes pricing.
And upon further review, the C55 really doesnt "stand out" that much from the 230 sport as you hinted upon earlier. I know the motor difference and all...but i need more than just that. One thing i hate about audi's these days, the S badge cars look close to a sport packaged model. Good for those folks, bad for folks like me.

Damn, the C63 sounds like a freaking steal at 56K. Not to mention it looks very sleek. holding off for it may be the best bet.
The vehicles you listed might be nice where you are, but here they a so common. If you really want something nice and stands out why not get a cherry luxury car from the past? Maybe a nice Rolls from the 80's, you can pick those up for 25-30K in great shape. Same thing with maybe a nice Bentley, those are less common cars to be tooling around in.

my cousin just bought a supercharged range rover sport. it performs a bit faster than the 6mt G coupe. The car was just awesome... he pays 700 a month, and his down was 3500

that'd be nice, but a lot of times companies have requirements as far as what you can get for your company car. i get a car allowance but one of the stipulations is that it be a late model vehicle, so less than 7 years old.

How much are you willing to add exactly? $300? If you take the 770 + 300 add'l youll have 1070 allotted for each month. at a 5% int rate and 60 mo finance plan you can buy somethin no money down up to 68k. If you lease, which is probably what you are going to do, then your rate might around 2.9 or 3.9 given the current int rate environment and @ 3.9 you might be able to go a little higher. think of price range first then work your way down.
