If you were going to get a sedan G35 in automatic then get the is350 it is fuckin sweet, on a side note I drove the is250 6mt and it isn't all that slow either the reports in magazines about it being kinda sluggish, should say kinda sluggish when I just got done driving the is350 but if I drove the is250 first it wouldn't have felt sluggish at all. The is350 is fast and smooth no doubt but I just couldn't handle the automatic even with the paddle shifting. The is250 on the other hand is tight but if you get the 6mt you can't get navi as an option.
I also thought about waiting for the IS350 before buying my G this summer, but realized I could never live with the electronic nannies that Toyota/Lexus puts in it's vehicles (with no off switch). The IS350 is undoubtedly a great car, probably with a better finish quality that the G, but as long as I can't have the freedom to drive in TOTAL control, I'll stick with Infiniti.
I'd stay away from a 1st year model. Wait 1 year until the kinks are worked out of the car. Regardless of it being a Lexus there will still be kinks.
As far as styling I still think it's very difficult to match let alone beat the G35 coupe and with the restyling of the sedan I think the sedan looks better than most cars too. The G has good mix of performance and interior ammenities, however I'd guess the Lexus' interior will match or beat the G.
In the end what you really need to do is sit down and list out what you are looking for in a car and how it will be used.
Best of luck.

the main reason the new IS turns me off is cuz they won't offer me what I want. I like the awd but don't like the 2.5 engine .. I like the 3.5 engine but want a manual and despise those stupid paddle systems for pedestrian use. However, it is a nice looking car and with toyota reliability ... hard not to atleast test drive the thing
I look at the design, the autumatic transmission, the detailed spec (such as the ratio of the higher gears), the can't-be-turned-off VSC, the over-muffled exhaust... it just says to me it's another nice, capable Toyota that's made to beat the competition on paper and in standard tests (and it will), but not having the soul of a sports car. But then, my standard for the "soul" may be unecessarily high. Take a test drive man. Only you can tell if you'll like it.

Thanks for all yall input. yeah I plan on getting a car end of this year and obviously i will have to test drive all these. one thing that turns me off about the lexus is the back looks too much like a mazda...i like the old styling better
Id like the is350 more if they didnt gay you with the transmission..'
is350 has the 306hp v6 with paddleshifter [automatic manual wannabe]
then the is250 with the weaker engine is the manual tranny..
isnt there also a awd version?

Personally I don't think the IS is a candidate yet. The IS250 offers a manual but the engine is rated at LESS hp and tq than the previous version. The IS350 delivers the goods with the bigger engine but currently does not offer a manual. That coupled with the substantial additional cost over the G puts it in a different category for me. If you are looking at the 350 I would seriously consider the new 330 from BMW.
I have only one thing to say about the new IS. "If" I was thinking about a 4-door, I'd caugh up a few more grand and get the M (even the M35) ANY DAY.
AGREED~!
the best looking luxury 4 door out there ^.^
the 300c dont look to bad either. one of the best cars to "bling"
besides the 7 series and the a8's... but those are at a way different price level ahah
then all the other cars that you need to rob a bank to get...
bentleys royles royce etc ..

i actually have to disagree with the majority here, i think the IS is hot!
Lexus fit and finish is definitely superior to most lux car manu's!
only downside would be the vsc being a permanent feature, that i didn't know about until now?
r u sure about this?
but otherwise i think everything else is right on!
I have always felt less than enamored by Lexus vehicles. They are great vehicles, but not great sports cars. Too quiet, too detached from the pavement. Its like driving a sports sedan simulator.
Hey, I LIKE to hear the rumble of the pavement. I LIKE to hear the motor. I LIKE to feel what the tires are feeling.
