Default Toyota Supra

Well guys, the family gets younger and younger i found out my cousin is car shopping, and he wants something between 1990 and 1999. I recomended him getting a Toyota supra or an RX7, but ive heard used RX7 are poorly taken car of and they are lame cars anyways. He said if his parents buy a car he wants it to be a 350z, but from what his grades look like i dont see that hapening. I recomended the Supra to him, so i was wondering if anyone knew any Good Toyota TRD or Supra forums and could join and get great info on it.

Thanks.

toyotanation.com and supraforums.com are both pretty good from what I was told. Good call on avoiding the RX7 ... I don't think it's so much the abuse but rather the lack of people out there that know how to maintain a rotary engine. Plus those things guzzle gas like crazy

*thumbs down* on the Rx7, very nice car love the styling and the look of it when nicely modded. But the engine is soo hard to maintain and if you blow it good luck on finding parts. I hear its a bitch.

mazda rx7's tend to run hot, the supra is a better bet.

http://www.mkiv.com/
get the 93-98, twin turbo if you can find it. the motor is bulletproof when taken care of and can easily put out 400-800 hp when worked on. the only problem is the ones i was looking at were in the neighborhood of 24k, dude for that kinda cash you can get a used z or g.

I've had mine for a loooong time. I would not trade it for a Supra. The RX-7's are much better at a race track, while the Supra's are better at the dragstrip. Don't let a rotary engine scare you. Down in FL you have excellent rotary specialists. Drop a message if interested.

They are a good car, not a ton of power, and the VSC (Vehicle Skid Control) works like our G's does, though is not as sensitive. A safe car overall for a newer driver - not so much fun that they will get into too much trouble.

I heard their modd potential is crazy. We have been talking about the is300 on a civic forum. And some people posted up dynos of a Is300 with a turbo and it made almost 1000hp. No other mods except for the turbo, nothing to reinforce the integrity of the engine. The is300 has the baby jz engine from the supra, and is suppose to respond really well to modds. There are some crazy videos of is300 out there...just to a search. CRAZY!!!

Yes, the engine is way underpowered for it's potential, a 3.0 liter straight 6, that from the factory only pulls 215HP and 218lb/ft. Iron block though, and with that displacement and variable valve timing has a lot of potential, but not easy to mod and expensive to.

Hey make sure your friend gets the turbo version of the Supra.

I like the looks and styling of the last generation RX-7, but that Wankel engine is just to weird.

I had an IS300 before my G. Great car and is a real sleeper when tuned right As for the Supra or RX-7, of course go for the Supra. RX-7 are pretty weird. The Supra is a real eye catcher also. Don't know about the RX-7.

Well, i learned something today, i learned that the IS300 is a baby j2Z and it has an iron block. My cousin is looking for a car with a 6speed manual RWD or AWD iron block. He did mention the IS but since they sell it with the MR-S engine in Japan bolt on's are easy to find, but since the US market got a 3.0 parts are hard to find.

I asked him about the drift stuff and he said he wants an s14 silvia (240sx)
These cars are great when you can afford the SR20det swap but other than that they suck. I told him to go witht eh supra, but ppl down here sell them too expensive for a 97 model. 40k for a supra i dont think so so ill recomend the IS 300 to him, its a powerfull engine, and its a 4door sedan to haul around his buddies, but the only thing thats bad is its a lexus. My aunt owns a lexus IS300 and she broke a head light. It cost 800bucks to get it replaced.

BTW anyone know some good IS300 or Altezza forums? Google seems to be malfunctioning on my end... Says something about unable to find results for your search. Its been like this all day.

See the is300 is a great modd car. True that though on the part on lexus being expensive. But with soo many is300 out there. I'm sure its easy to find a junkyard full of parts for ur car.

S14 is a nice car...how about getting the silvia s15? Those cars are crazy. You should look into getting the S15 Spec R. Did I mention its turboed? There a place in cali that has them imported for about 19-25k. Oh yea and the s15...MAD DRIFT CARS!!!
Heres link about the S15

The IS300 engine is basically the Supra engine less tuning and turbos. It's a very good engine to start off with, but it's going to be some bucks to get it to perform like a TT Supra's engine. He's probably better off finding a TT Supra engine.

Also I think the IS manual transmission were 5 gears, not 6 so something else to think about.
