Exclamation Ester Oil and Engine Break-in??

I bought the service package along with my G37S but the dealer told me something that sounded questionable. They told me that the G37 uses ester engine oil, not conventional or synthetic oil. They said that the service package price includes all oil changes with ester oil (which is significantly more expensive than regular or synthetic oil) but that I may have to remind the dealer doing the service that they need to use ester oil. They said that ester oil is a new oil manufactured by Nissan and it lubricates much better than synthetic oil. I looked in the service manual and it doesn't say anything about ester oil. Was I lied to or have you guys heard something about this?

Also, I don't see anything in the manual about engine break-in. Is there an engine break-in procedure? If so, what is it?

Thanks!

Sounds fishy......

The only "ester" oils I have ever heard of is refrigerant oil and "phosphate ester" with is an aviation hydraulic fluid with a trade name of Skydrol. NEVER put that crap in you car or anywhere near your car, eats through seals that would normally work for pretty much everything else.

Perhaps there is something to it. The Google search I did before making that post didn't show anything. The G37 thread provided more info.

Do a little bit more searching. Especially look for forum posts discussing the Nissan European Patent application for the Nissan Ester oil and the Infiniti Technical paper discussing the VVEL. You should learn more than you want to know about the Nissan Ester oil, the VVEL knock TSB and whether you need to use it or not.

The better question is if the dealer is going to use Ester oil as part of my maintenance package. The dealer I bought the car from said they would but they are 3 hours away and I'll be bringing it to a local dealer for service. If this stuff really is super expensive and its use isn't mandatory I highly doubt they will use it. What do you guys think?
