With the help from my wife we were able to program our garage to the car's home link system. The system works great and now I don't have to have the garage door opener clipped to the sun visor. I'm wondering why Infiniti didn't illuminate the home link buttons? Coming home at night, I always have to turn on the map lights to see where the buttons are. Go figure?
i have a few similar complaints. those buttons should be illuminated, there should also be an indicator for the fog lights being ON (either on the bezel or on the switch) and there should be an indicator for the headlights being ON as well (usually a little green symbol on the bezel).
My home-link went a little bonkers. I have 2 doors and I use the left button for one and the large center button for the other door. After a few months the left button opens BOTH doors. I think it was the rolling codes. I had to de-program and re-program twice in about 1 year.
I'm wondering why Infiniti didn't illuminate the home link buttons?
Infiniti has nothing to do with designing the homelink/compass rear view mirror. The mirror was designed and is built by Mito Corp. as their Gentex model. This is the only way the mirror is available. If you want a homelink/compass rear view mirror, the only one available in the marketplace, as either an OEM or aftermarket fitment, is the Mito Gentex.
The buttons illuminate when pushed. This was how Mito designed the mirror. If the button illuminates when pushed, then the button is working. If the button does not illuminate, then there is a problem. I guess engineers would rather use the illumination function as a working test than for convenience.
Also, after a little while, you get used to it and will be able to find the button in the dark.
I prefer there to be no lights illuminating things. That way if a light comes on it is more likely to get your attention. I would like it if you could turn off the radio/ac lights and still have the instrument cluster on.
that and some of the highways around here have zero lighting so turning things off would help...
If you only need one code, then use the big button in the middle... you can't miss that in the dark.

The clock lights up only when the headlights are on... but I do agree that they should have a separate indicator for the fog lights.

my clock doesn't light up anymore, but it's not very bright anyways. i think any car that has a constant illuminated gauge cluster and especially auto ON headlights should have an indicator. there have been so many times where it's dusk or raining, when i want to have my lights on for safety's sake but i cannot tell if they are on or not because it's too light outside.

lol what are you 80 years old? perhaps they should install a buzzer and shock your ass when the check engine light comes on.
generally the warning lights will be a different color than your gauges so you will notice it regardless how many lights are on in the cockpit.
Nissans have always been like this... something on your dash lights up with your high beams, but other than that, everything else lights up with the headlights. I like this system, and I'm not used to it when I get into a Benz or something with a symbol for the headlights.

the radio buttons and clock light up w/ the headlights... but that's hard to see when it's not pitch dark out, which is when i want to know if my lights are on or not. when it's night time, you can tell if your lights are on pretty easily... (can you see or not)
it was hard for me to get used to the little green 'headlights on' symbol in my last car... i kept thinking something was wrong with the car. but i do miss having that now...

still in twenties...barely
Your buzzer idea might work:
My grandma's previous car (she totaled it trying to pull a u-turn on turnpike, that's another story) had a battery gauge and a dummy light, she never saw either of them and called me when she broke down, wondering what happened
