thanks for all of your advise guys. Although I think things got a little crazy and out of line in the process. I'll just stick with premium, its not a matter of cost anyways, just a thought and some rumors I was hearing. Thanks.

This be the end! Cheers

I switched to midgrade about a month ago to see if I could see a difference. I have no knocks, no pings, from what I can tell no power loss. And under normal driving I get better gas mileage, 20 city, 27.5 hwy cruising at 80mph. For me it has been worth saving that 10-12 cents/gallon.

In Los Angeles gas has officially gone over $5 in most places. Near Beverly Hills/Brentwood area I've seen $5.50 already. OMFG!!

You'll change your mind at 50,000 miles when you can't keep up with a prius.

I think I have seen this exact thread in every performance car forum.

This is real simple: YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS BUYING A 40K + CAR IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY 30 CENTS EXTRA A GALLON FOR 91/93 OCTANE.

That is the end of the story.

Dean

Default Regular gas here

I work in the automotive research industry (specialising in Engine technology), and I have a Volvo 07 V50 T5, 03 Cooper S, 08 G35, and a 07 Porche Cayman. I have used regular gas on all of them. That is not to say CostCo gas and Shell are the same. They clearly are not due to detergents added in premium branded gas. It is true that some cars are more sensitive to pinging, but I'm not a racer, and just a car entusiast. Since I don't push my cars hard all the time, I use regular gas, and it's fine. I can't comment on the G37, but I'm afraid that I can't reveal more than that due to NDAs.

I got stuck in a 2hr traffic jam that should have taken 45 minutes. I ran out of gas so I had to put in gas at the nearest station I could find. They were out of eveything other than 87 so I put it into my 335i with 38 miles on the odo. Honestly she seemed to do fine. It's not like I'm on the ciruct at a F1 race. No pinging what so ever!
