Question G37s Los Angeles

Hey guys,

I'm a newb here and was hoping you guys could give me some advice. I am moving out to Los Angeles over the summer and was thinking about buying a g37s 6mt. I test drove the car and really liked it but was a bit thrown off by the abrupt and late engagement of the clutch. I am experienced with manual transmissions but am wondering how those of you that live in LA feel about driving this car on a daily basis. LA is infamous for its traffic and I do not want to end up disliking an otherwise excellent car. Have you guys adjusted well to the clutch? Is it too problematic during rush hour that you would recommend steering me away from this car or a manual transmission in general? Any advice or experiences from LA will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Talking

I have driven manual transmission cars since I first started driving. The G37S does have an unusual feeling clutch. I live in Newport area where there isnt much traffic but on the once or twice I've taken it to LA or San Diego I have a new found appreciation for Auto Transmissions. Its totally up to you though. I would reccommend driving it again at a dealer and take it to a back road or parking lot and pretend like youre driving in traffic...see how it feels. For me I would rather be a bit annoyed in traffic with a MT and still have the option of really having fun with the car on the occasion when Im not in traffic on the 101. haha.

Welcome to Socal...beware the Toyotas!!

ha! you have to admit, the clutch will kill your leg in traffic. i cannot imagine what it's like in LA. pure agony.

I live in LA and SD (live in LA, go to school in SD) and let me tell you, it is no picnic with all of this traffic. As soon as 430 hits, i wanna be no where near the streets. Thats why I really wouldnt recommend a 6mt unless you really love manuals and you really dont mind all of the work. I mean, if your commute isnt too long, then i guess you can sacrifice a bit of stress on the leg.

I drive a 5AT G35 and its fun, but not as much as 6MT of course. But the paddles on the 37 should keep you more than happy... i wish I had them

Like simpson said above, go with the 5AT if you think you'll be on the road often during rush hour. I know, I never thought I'd say it, but...
