I purchased a 2008 G37 on September 12. It is a red Journey, with black leather and these packages: Premium, Sports, Navigation and Technology. I also got the spoiler, cargo net and splash guards. The only option I don’t have is the Active Steer. I have also added a clear bra to the front.
Until last month I had never considered an Infiniti and had never even ridden in one. I was looking for a new car and saw the new G37 was just coming out. I test drove a white one and fell in love with it. It is a perfect mix of sport and luxury. My only problem was that I wanted a red one and apparently those are hard to find right now. I live in Pensacola, Florida and nobody in my area had a red one. I ended up having to get one from Atlantic Infiniti in Jacksonville, Florida, which was traded from a dealership in Virginia.
I have had the car for about 2 weeks now and I like it more every day. It is super classy, refined, fun to drive and a beautiful car. No complaints so far.
I will post more pictures later and give my impressions of some of the options. I just finished the owner’s manual suggested break-in period of 1,200 miles.
Yes 1,200 miles is a lot in 2 weeks, but I have gone on a couple of road trips so far that were several hundred miles. I ordinarily only drive about 150 miles total per week. I just wanted to make sure I was careful and did as the manual said and varied my speed and stayed below 4,000 RPMs until the break-in period was over. I know some people say the break-in is not necessary (including my salesperson), but it doesn't hurt and it doesn't cost anything to do it and I would rather be safe that sorry.
The car is so much fun to drive, that it is hard for me to keep myself reigned in. The sound of the engine and the exhaust note is really nice.
I am one of those people who always turns my head around to see where I am backing. I have never relied on mirrors. That’s just me. With this camera, I finally feel comfortable enough to use it, along with the mirrors, for backing up. It gives a great picture.
Navigation System
I know it is gimmicky, but it’s nice to be able to talk to the Nav system and set the radio stations, use the GPS, control the temperature and other stuff. There are a lot of commands, so I need to check out the book on the system. There is a separate owner’s manual just for it. I like being able to put in a CD and then record it to the Music Box hard drive. You can play the CD the same time it is being recorded. Usually, by about the third song, the entire CD has been copied to the hard drive.
Intelligent Cruise Control
I didn’t think I would like the Intelligent Cruise control, but it comes in handy on the highway when people are constantly cutting in front of you and speeding up and slowing down. I drove several hundred miles on a trip and never had to touch my brakes. It shuts itself off when the wipers are on high, or if the sun is too bright on the front of the car. It does a good job of sensing the car in front of you and maintaining a safe distance. The Active Cruise Control opening is integrated into the bottom front of the bumper. It looks like a little glass window.
Intelligent Key System
It’s great to be able to have the key fob in your pocket and just walk up to one of the doors, the trunk or gas filler door and open them. No more fumbling for the keys. The push-button ignition is cool too.
Other features I like:
The Adaptive Front Lighting that turns the headlights a few degrees when making a corner is nice. You can actually see this happening at night because of the movement of the light when turning.
The entire instrument cluster moves when the steering wheel is moved up or down, so you always have a good view everything.
The car rides really well to have a sports package on it. That was one of the things that impressed me about the car. It feels solid as a rock and the ride is comfortable.
The brakes are phenomenal and look great with the rims and tires.
I am not use to having a car with so much power, so that will take some getting use to. This car accelerates smoothly from a stand still or any speed, and without any hesitation.
My last car only had 200hp, so I am sure you can understand why I can’t wipe the smile off my face while driving the G37.
It's an automatic, which is just what I wanted, but if I want to shift, I can use the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. I never test drove a manual G37, but I bet it is a lot of fun.
I like the sound of the car during acceleration when it goes through all 5 gears. The car is quiet on the inside, so I had to have the windows open to hear it better.
I wanted a red one and apparently those are hard to find right now.
Nice car! I'm waiting on a vibrant red myself but 6MT. There was none available on the east coast from now until the end of the year so I had to order one. Hopefully it will be here in mid NOV but at latest by end of DEC. Can't wait... I wasn't thinking G37 but when I drove it, it just felt right. Congrats on your car! What was your previous car?
