What would be nice is to have a shift gate plate on the G like they have on the Ferrari's. Would solve the sometimes having a brain fart and shifting it into the wrong gear problem most of the time.

get better at driving stick and you'll realize those don't make anythign easier.
as far as stick vs auto, when infiniti puts a 6sp+ into the G or some sort of real F1 shifter (tiptronic is still an automatic, no matter how sporty the paddle shifters make you feel), then maybe the automatic should be considered for someone who wants this as a sports car. like others said, if you want a cruiser to work, why waste the effort of a MT.
6mt is definitely more fun in the G. but my next car will likely be an auto. i am just getting tired of all of the shifting, and my commutes are more for work now, and less for fun spirited driving. ideally, next up i'd like to have one of each... something like a g37, 335i or a5 MT and something very economical like an accord hybrid AT for the daily driver.

wow! Did you turn gay overnight or is this something that you have been hiding from us for a while?

i turned gay last night. it wasn't really by choice though. i went to pick up my favorite hooker from around the way - and low and behold - she was not available! something about a 2 week meth bender. the only other choice was a guy in a skirt so i figured, what the hell?
+1 I got the 6mt in the coupe despite my wife's objections, even though she can drive a manual and has driven the 6mt a couple of times. She is too afraid to drive it now with the lowering springs, body kit, supercharger, and wheels.
It was a requirement that our G sedan be a 5at for her to drive, even though I drive it more than she does.

Shifter gates... Actually they do make it easier. Obviously you haven't driven with one before.
The trucks gear ratio and shift points are not the same as the G35's
Drive more than one vehicle with a manual transmission on a regular basis and you will see that it's much easier to "forget" which gear your in or want to be in.

if you need to use a shifter gate like training wheels to know what gear ur in then thats your deal. i've had about 4 manual cars as daily drivers, and somehow remembered what gear i'm on without the plate. you should be able to read teh tach and speedometer to figure what gear your own, but you should also just know by feelin where the shifter is.

I am going to go ahead and disagree on this one. I have owned up to 3 manual transmission cars (plus my ex girlfriends at the time) and I drove all 4 cars every few weeks without any problems with knowing what gear I was in. The cars were a 04 ford focus (girls), a 85 Jeep CJ7, a 83 rabbit GTI, and a 94 Jetta. All very different cars with different shift patterns. I never missed a shift or forgot what gear I was in. You should be able to tell by rpms and mph where you are and where you need to be...

^^ +100000!!!
ive had 4 cars thus far as well 2 preludes, a crossfire and a G and ive never had the problem of figuring out what gear i was in. just feel the shifter and youll know where you are. how could you forget that often that you need a plate? plus even if you had the plate, are you seriously telling me you have to look down before you shift? you may need to stick to paddle shifters in that case
