ummm bc there are more to the cars than performance numbers... you and i might think it's number one.... but to most people the $8,000 savings is much bigger... combined with other things.
even so... the BMW is not significantly (spelling?) quicker than the G37... they even gave the real world example that neither pulled away from the other.. like the article said -- it makes it a moot point. the other advantages of the G and the $8,000 difference, however, is not.
Granted, I think the price point is the major contributing factor. I'm not sold on the G37 looks like I was the first time I saw the side angle from above pic for the G35 back in '02 (holy shit, has it been that long???) I will definitely need to see the car in person. That's discouraging. Those damn awkward hood lines and the rear lights I keep seeing in all the pics really have me scratching my head. My next door neighbor got the 335i, and I have to say, for a Bangle-era design, it looks really good in person. For me, the $8k difference might be worth it if I can get better service and the quality/fit issues are less than the issues I've experienced on my '04 coupe. Plus, while I have not heard of anybody modding them yet with bigger turbos, I suspect that the 335i can be much easier to mod since it already has all the FI plumbing in place too.

$8k in your pocket is a huge argument, but and I say this with caution because I'm not arguing for or against either car here...
Live with both cars for any lenght of time and I'd bet most would choose the Bimmer. I've just recently went from an Infiniti back to a Bimmer and I'll tell you what it just feels "that much" better day-to-day. I have to give props to the Germans, they just know what they're doing and what people want. Everything just feels like it was forged from the same mold.
Hey let's admit it the G is a great car and now the performance is that much better. The fact that you can get a car that's about as good as a Bimmer is even better. Now think about my last sentence carefully. If it were not for the money factor I'd bet that the overwhelming majority would choose the Bimmer. Why? Can't say. I'm sure everyone has their own reasons.
For me it's always because of this simple fact: All cars have compromises. They just do! Unless you're lucky enough to drive a Mclaren F1 day to day. With most all cars the compromises are clear and is felt/observed/etc. every day. With Bimmers I feel it the least. That's whats always made me feel good about my the amount of dollars I paid.

It may be easier (which I doubt) to mod but IT WILL cost you a hell of a lot more!

I could agree with you more....it all depends on what you are willing to pay for and what you feel you can live with

the weight and performace is a big dissapointment. with 330hp, that thing should be running around 5.0 seconds to 60. im really pissed infiniti increased the weight. now the extra power doesnt really do anything but negate the added weight.
yeah unless they are kitted they are fugly as shit

yeah 80% of peeople that have bimmers cant even afford the car so they lease it, let alone be able to afford modding it.
the peeps with money are the only ones that mod and its just high. everyone once in a while you may catch a modded BMW and that just exhaust if so. they are far and few between. if you wanna see modded BM's you hav eto go to a BMW car club
look at how much it cost for hamann exhaust alone, but it does sound sweet.

True, that there are probably a number who lease because they can't afford to purchase, but I'd argue you'd find about the same number with a G. So it's a moot point.
It's also true, that Bimmer cost more, but I'd bet that if you conducted a survey into Bimmer vs. Infiniti owners there'd be more Bimmer owners who possess higher level of education and higher annual incomes. Based on this, the reason why there are proportionately more leases of Bimmers/Mercedes Benzes/Jaguars/etc. compared to that of Infiniti/Acura/etc. is due primairly for reasons associated with the IRS. Unless you know what the AMT is and you make a significant annual income all of this might not mean anything to you.

Saying that a more expensive car has a group of people with higher annual incomes for owners is somewhat redundant for the most part isn't it? i highly doubt there are many ferarri owners who fall below the poverty line in the us for example. Then again, some people simply prefer a car over other cars reguardless of price or what "people say" about the cars so you will find the very wealthy driving pos cars sometimes.
the Car and Driver write up has the car running a 13.9 @ 103. 103 is pretty good- weight eduction mods need to be a first on this car. Its turning into a mustang GT.... more power and more weight.
Man, you must have some bucks for cars, wish I did, I would get a CLK63 Black edition toot suite! As far as the coupe goes, too much weight and too little power...now if they put a fiberglass body on it....

And don't forget that the ones that lease the BMW's get the ones with 15 inch rims and no fucking options.....but thank God they have that BMW logo on the hood.
