I cant make up my mind. I have driven the G35 Sedan AT and thought it was a great car. I have also driven a 2004 TL for 2 days. The TL is great looking car but is experiencing some first year rattles and other issues.
A service advisor at the Acura dealership 3 miles from my house bought my Acura Vigor so I have established a relationship there already. I feel like that maybe the TL would receive prompt attention if it was taken in for anything.
I live a short drive from Grubbs (about 14 miles) here in Fort Worth,Texas. I was treated well by the salesman and wasnt pressured at all about anything. When he asked for my phone number and I declined there was no frown on his face. I am on the fence here and soon as I sell my 1973 Lotus Europa with 21,000 original 1 owner miles I will be ready to buy. Convince me to consider the G35 Sedan more seriously
Why would you get rid of the Lotus? Somebody point Brit over here please. I think the revolution is starting.
If you like performance, the G35 is your car. The TL has a nicer interior, but at the end of the day it's still a FWD Honda. I would kick myself if I went from a Lotus to a front wheel drive vehicle. You'll notice the difference.

The general concensus is G35 if you want a sport sedan, TL if you want a nice sedan. Their interior is better, but we have the best driving experience.

Are you looking brand new or used? If you are looking used I think Infiniti has the best certified program. I was in the same boat as you between the TL and G35. Are you looking strictly for an automatic or manual?
Personally I think the 6mt in the G makes the vehicle. I couldn't find any here in Colorado so I got mine shipped from Grubbs. Pretty much a hassle free transaction.
If I wanted an automatic I think it's pretty much a toss up. The real difference comes down to nicer interior with the TL or better performance with the G, especially the 6mt. I love my G 3 (weeks old) and after driving it compared to the new TL there is no comparison for me (coming from an ex. Legend and Accord owner)
jl9618,
Looking to buy a new one. I havent had a new car since my 1983 Monte Carlo SS. Due to my very slow commute each way to work I will only be buying an auto trans.
chenga,
The Lotus is not my everyday driver. I am too tall to comfortably enter and exit that low of a car. I was lucky enough the other day and my father gave it to me to sell and assist me in purchasing my next car. It has always been stored indoors and is currently in his backyard storage bldg under a car cover. He bought it new in 1973 but has not driven it in some time but it still looks new. The sooner I sell it the quicker the new car rolls into my driveway. Any takers?
I agree about the G handling better. It feels much more responsive to my actions behind the wheel. I already have $15k ready for a down payment but I thought I would wait until I sold the Lotus so I can add some more to that amount. I have some time to torture myself about the decision.
Thank you for the comments so far.
At the danger of this becoming another TL vs. G35 thread, I agree with what's been said by others. I had a deposit on a TL, and backed out of it due to the driving experience. I thought it was overassisted, with somewhat vague on-center feel and turn-in. The torque steer is really bad on hard acceleration, where the G35 just whooshes forward in a straight line (especially with my Stillen intake and exhaust).
The TL is a cruiser, a really luxurious powerful Accord. The G35 is a 350Z that happens to have 4 doors. A sports car.
Don't take our word, though-we've already bought them. Look at the recent comparo's in Car and Driver and Motor Trend, where the G35 consistently comes out on top. As opposed to Consumer Reports which gives the TL the nod. It all comes down to priorities.......
It's not just a 350 with 4 doors, its got a very comfortable ride too, tons of room in the trunk. I took 4 guts on a golf trip, all four clubs fit in the back, lots of leg room (I'm 6' and sat in teh back so my buddy could try driving), 26 mpg on the highway, and can still kick Mustang GT's and Camero's. Really what else do you want in a car.
PS My wife loves to drive it too, power is addictive!!!

PS. I moved to South Texas from way, WAY further north and I would not hesitate to go AWD in a snow/icey climate.
coleb10 - I was in the same situation as you two weeks ago. I'm in Milwaukee, so I pefer a front-wheel or all-wheel drive car for the winters. In my mind, I was convinced I wanted a TL and I almost didn't even test drive the G35. But after driving the G35x twice and then taking the TL on an extended 2-day test drive, my thoughts changed. I found the TL interior nice, but could never find a comfortable position in the driver seat. The TL drove well, but not as well as the G35x. As much as I tried to love the TL, I've now eliminated it as my next car.
I did love all the technology and gadgets in the TL, but interior of the G35x was more comfortable. While I liked driving the G35, I didn't much care for the console's dated technology in the G35. (my personal preference - not a slam...)
Since I'm not in a big hurry to buy I've decided to wait until September for the 2005 G35. The 2005 model supposedly will have an updated interior and I'm hoping we'll get the best of both worlds - gadgets like the TL on the G35.
Since you are waiting to sell your Lotus, perhaps you may want to do the same and wait a little longer for the 2005 model.
Hey Coleb, I got my coupe from Grubbs. They will bend over backwards to make you happy. I have a friend who works at Vandagriff Acura here in Arlington. He took me for a ride in a new TL, and I thought it was really nice on the inside. We also raced and I beat him pretty bad. As for the exterior I think the G looks alot better, but thats just my oppinion.

I have been talking to my neighbor who is going through the same process that many of us have in the past (the G35 Sedan v. TL choice). Those who say it is a matter of priorities are 100% correct. They're both great cars! The engine sound and low RPM torque did it for me, even though I liked the looks of the TL slightly better.
I have never driven a 2004 TL but my I have a 2003 G35 Sedan and my parents have a 2003 TL. I personally like the G35 because it handles better and I like the look more. I am happier with the G35 over the TL but I do feel they are both cars and you can't lose with either one. I agree that the TL has a nicer interior so get whatever variables are most important to you.

(Just kidding, I assume that's a typo. It was funny to read, though)
