Pray tell, why did you want to remove the side molding. Was it a permanent or temporary deal or what. And that 3M double tape is just about permanent. If you want to remove the residue in order to re install the molding, there is adhesive remover which will do the trick otherwise the molding won't lay flat or seal properly. SemperFi

okay well i took a pic of my car, it looked better with out the molding so i tried to take it off, it was coming off fine with my heat gun until i noticed there is a hole in the door and a clip on the side molding going into the door.. yeah.. so i stopped there.. heated up the goowie stuff and pressed hard on the side molding to make it stick.. its been holding up pretty good and hasnt came off at all.. just guys dont take off your side molding unless you plan on filling up the holes...

Wow. Thanks for the warning because I was getting ready to do that myself. It's strange that this topic was discussed before and 2 or 3 people had done the removal without mentioning holes. One used a heat gun and another used alcohol and dental floss. I wonder if the holes are put there if it's a factory option but not if it's a dealer add-on. Anyone know?

Please folks, alcohol and dental floss don't mix. If you must drink and floss use your head, and keep it safe for those around you.

It's necessary in some places ... especially in the NE. I don't have it but I'm itching to go get it

Don't get it Ru. I'd bet you $100 that the first ding you get will be below or above the molding. With SUVs and others, there's about 0 chance that the molding is going to protect you. At least that's the way I look at it, my luck would never hold that the car next to me will actually contact the moldings.

I like look of the molding. But it was not an option that I really wanted to pay for. Most of the cars do not have it on there...so I was not going to pay for a dealer install. Also, it is just another item to wax around!

Alex at Grubbs thought that the new kits for side molding only had adhesive. No holes to drill, but, he did not know for sure.
