I live in New Jersey and have to deal with the occassional snow and Ice we get during the Winter.
My driveway is banked at about a 30 degree angle. I never had a problem going down the driveway on snow or ice with the original tires (I think they were some type of Bridgestone "all season" radials . I put the car in neutral and go down the driveway onto the main street with no problem
I recently bought a set of GOODYEAR EAGLE GT225/55R-17 all
season radials and now, going down my driveway is a horror. The tires don't "grip" and my car slides slide right onto the street. I can't get any traction.
I can't figure out why this should be. Any theories? I bought them at "Tire Rack.
Any feedback and advice will be greatly appreciated.
Hmmm, I don't have any direct response, but I recently replaced my rears on my '05 6mt 235/45/18 with some Falken Ziex Ze-912, supposedly all season good grip dry or wet tires and traction with the rear is actually worse than the almost completely bald Conti's I replaced. I can't get any grip even with a tiny dusting of snow. The car literally floats. It does ok in rain and dry, but even a hint of ice, snow, slush and I can't do anything but spin the things.
I've had an '07 Mustang GT (manual), '05 Mustang GT (manual), and a '98 V8 Dakota previously and never had a problem, so it can't be blamed on my driving. I'd love to hear some answers/theories.
I had almost purchased the Goodyear's you did and have been regretting because I thought they would do better. I guess I'm relieved they aren't in some ways (not wishing you ill). Our cars aren't exactly light or anything, what's up?

Hi Jim,
I called the Service Mgr. at my Infiniti Dealership and he was puzzled also.
What he suggested was that the the "SNOW" button be activated (which it was) but more importantly, to add some weight to the trunk so I just added a 70 lb. bag of rock salt.
We're having a snow storm today so it would be a good opportunity to test the theory. Give me a holler in a few days and I'll let you know how I made out. It's weird because with the other tires and the AWD the car was awesome going up and down hills.

Jim,
Took my card down my driveway with the weight in the rear,
Made a 90% improvement in handling.

try the new Continental DWS tires... or better yet, mount some winter tires for the season. My 06 GT - with a Whipple - drives around in the snow better than the average SUV player and credit is completely due to Michelin PA Alpin Winter Performance tires.
No matter what else you consider (FWD, AWL, RWD, 4x4, ballast, etc.) the only thing on the ground and in the snow is the tires. They are clearly the most important part of the equation...
