Default important about our traction control

okay, someone please, PLEASE explain the traction control system to me?

2003.5 G35 Sedan..

example.. I'm driving i make a turn in the snow, WHAT HAPPENES? does our car spin one wheel more than the other? IS that possiable???

Do BOTH our back wheel spin?

What is LSD? someone tired to explain it to me, i did not understand!

With the VDC off i still hear noises coming from the engine bay as if the tracion control is still on when my car is slipping.

Okay Traction Control (TC) is simply to limit the slippage of the drive wheels, in your case the rear wheels. Say you are accelerating and one of the wheels hits a slippery patch and begins to spin, the traction control will take power away from the wheel thereby slowing it down to where it regains traction.

Traction Control is an electronic system that uses computers to take power away from the engine and/or use the brakes for either tire to slow that wheel/s down.

LSD (Limited Slip Differential) is a mechanical traction control. Unlike the electronic one, when one tire begins to slip, it takes away power from that wheel and sends it to the other wheel if it can handle it. This is often done by using gears and/or hydraulic pressure. Your 2003 sedan does not have a LSD.

VDC is the combination of Stability Control (SC)and Traction Control. SC prevents understeer or oversteer by braking any of the 4 individual wheels and/or taking away power from the engine thereby stopping tires from losing grip.

When you say that you hear noises even after you turn VDC off, what exactly do you mean. Even if it is off, you will still see the Slip light in the gauge cluster, but trust me VDC is not stopping any wheel slippage.

If you have any more questions or need something clarified just holler. Also any tech heads, if I goofed since it is late right now, post the fixes!

You may want to re-read VDC GOES ON NO MATTER WHAT.

When everything turned into a sheet of ice last week, I found the TCS cuts power to the rear wheels WAY too soon. Although fine on slippery snow and slush, on ice I found myself turning VDC off just to get rolling quicker, then turning it back on to keep from sliding off the road. Somethig about putting your foot down when you need more power, only to have your engine turn into cream cheese. I will say, however, with (4) winter tires (and mine are hard, not ice, compound), I was totally pleased how the car handled the icy conditions. It was truly amazing the amount of noise the VDC systems made on ice working constantly to keep control. It's a bit wierd when the EBS pulses only one outside front wheel when the front end begins to wash out, but boy, does it snap back into line fast. Amazing technology that will probably save my life someday! This car is VERY good in snow/icy conditions IMO.

yeah you have a 2004 which has LSD, I'm realling thinking hard about trading my car in for a 2004 all wheel drive, I am willing to spend TOPS $4,000 for it! anyway.. I'm very happy with my car, its just i get stuck in big piles of snow and i do understand i have a RWD car and that other people have it work, people that do not have VDC or traction control. AWD cars wow i was so pleased driving my moms hyundi santa-fe. AWD SUV's are awesome, Does anyone have the AWD G Sedan yet? what are your comments on it [] Let me know thank you for the info, now i understand what was going on!
