Default Automatic Transmission Fluid

Hi all,

I have a 03 G35 auto with about 60k miles. I was told that I need to get the Automatic Transmission Fluid changed. Can I get this done at any auto shop or will I have to go to the dealership? Also, how much does this service normally cost. The mechanic down the street said that he would be able to do it for me for about $90 but I want to make sure that it can be done by someone other than an Infiniti dealership.

Thanks,

John

you could do it anywhere, but i recommend you take it to somewhere you trust. many of us have had instances in which they try to rip us off (especially firestone).

$90 is pretty good, just make sure this guy knows what he's doing.

Hi, thanks for the response. I was reading online somewhere that you have to use the Nissanmatic fluid or it voids the warranty. Is this true for the G35's? I got a quote from the Infiniti dealership for about $169.95. About $75 more.

i dont know if it will void the warranty, but i do know that a lot of people are very selective of their transmission fluid for performance reasons. sort've like choosing the best oil and best gas for your vehicle. maybe you should go to a nissan dealership to clarify things; but either way, isnt your manufacturer warranty expired? i could've sworn the warranty was up after 60k miles.

$170 sounds more or less along the lines i would've expected. if you're willing to spend the extra cash in order to feel safer, then by all means, go ahead.

only use the OEM nissan j-matic fluid for your Auto tranny. people mix and match with manual transmissions but you can only use jmatic for your auto. it doesnt just void your warranty, it makes your G go boom (/hyperbole) (exaggeration, exaggeration exaggeration)

you can either flush your tranny at greater cost for longer intervals, or you can just drain and fill (as easy as an oil change) for twice as many intervals.
