Default So I'm hitting 30K

What to do...what to do...

I'm a pretty strict follower of the recommended scheduled maintenance...My car is due for an oil change and I know the'll be hustling me to do the 30K work. Am I insane to consider getting the service done?

How much would I expect to pay for this? How long does it take?

So I come you to, friends...need some advice here .

According to Infiniti I need:

Did you purchase or lease? I'm on a lease and my service advisor and I talked about this and determined a lot of the stuff we won't do. I'll do all the "good" stuff. Tehy warranty the brakes fro 36,000 miles, so have them check those. Do the alignment, oil change, engine fiter change, cabin filter change and check all your fluids. The rest, like wiper blades and that crap. If they're bad then replace them. If not, have them stike that from the service. Just my opinion though. $900 is a lot for a check up or preventative service.

I purchased, and plan on keeping the car for some years, so since i purchased I guess it is in my best interest to do all/most of the services...I have a 2005 I don't think they warrant the brakes anymore. $900?! wow that's pricey...

and before anyone suggests to do this myself, thanks but I can't...logistically speaking.

Do NOT blindly do all of the DEALER RECOMMENDED services. There is a huge difference between what is RECOMMENDED and what is REQUIRED by the MANUFACTURER. Seriously, ask for a list of what the dealer services are and find yourself a good independent shop. At least a quarter of the services listed are BS and the ones that aren't are marked up quite a bit.

Dealer quoted me $850 for the 30k service. I went to my mechanic and had him perform not only the required work but also anything else that might be a good idea in the long run. Also had some aftermarket stuff put on and my total bill was only $350 or so.

Check the book that came with your car for the required maintenance. There are two different schedules for how you drive/elements you drive in.

It is a WASTE OF MONEY!!!

Just stick to the S2 service from the manual all through out and you will be fine!!!!

The air filter - engine and cabin - can be replaced by YOU and you can save the labor cost on that. Get the replacement filters @ Autozone or online and save money on the part as well!!!!

Do not pay for the inspection any extra - all it is - is a visuall check. For example Break Check - when they rotate your tires - they can look at the pads - hell you can look at them through the wheels -

- think you get where I am headed here!

anyway stick to the S2 option and all will be good.

Cool 30K service

The service should run you no more than $750 and that is for EVERYTHING. Some things, like changing the cabin filter, you can do on your own. Since you have 30K on your car and if it has been 2 years since you had a major service, I would get all the mechancal stuff done that you cannot do yourself. Things like wiper blades, etc. you can do yourself and save labor costs. If you are mechanically inclined, you can do most of the service yourself and save a bundle. I would also shop around, just not only dealers, but independent shops as well. Remember: you have 30K on the car now and most fluids need to be changed, the radiator will need to be flushed, if you cannot afford it all now, split it in two and have them do half this month and half next month. I know it's expensive, but it's an essential service and will keep your warranty in check as well. Good luck.

Someone explain to me WHY the radiator Fluid needs to be flushed???

It is a closed system... I understand making sure it is full - but does it say that the Coolent looses it's properties after exactly 30K ??? all the cars that I've owned never ones have I flushed the radiator fluid.

Same goes for Transmission Fluid and Differential oil.... ---- Closed system... Check them and fill them as necessary. Now if you are grinding gears then I can see the use of flushing Tran and Differential but still don't get the Radiator Flush!!!!

and by the way... changed my oil @ 11250 miles and it lookes clean enough to drink.... Switched to synthetic Mobile 1 this time with a Mobile 1 filter and will probably go for 5k -6K miles this time.

Mine's an 05 too and my service advisor told me the brakes are warrantied. I'd check into it.

That's a very good question- maybe because the dealer makes most of their money on service???

Another interesting point to ponder- Automatic transmission flush comes with the 30k check up (seems to be premature) but if you have a 6mt they do not flush the fluid nor is there any price difference. They also say and charge to check the spark plugs. Every mechanic I've talked to said this is a waste of money on a newer car with 30K on it- pushing 75-100k and they might be worth a look though.

even the cheap spark plugs that you get at Autozone ---- last I checked were good for 100K miles!!!

there are things you need to do to your car!!! but be smart about them... like do the S2 service and not the full premium!!! and do some of it yourself if you can!

and awesome point 'JL' about Auto vs. Manual tranny maintenance. ---- > most of it is to just take your money!

Thanks for the info guys, keep'em coming if you got more! So about the brakes...they're covered for 36K, what is covered? Just replacement? labor? Because I have noticed some pedal vibration (very little) when braking hard, like when getting off the freeway.

^^^ Had my breaks done twice under the warranty- labor and hardware are included- at least on the 03-04- didn't know they warrantied the 05+. Anyway, just ask questions when it comes time to get your brakes done. The reason they did mine twice is that the first time they only turned the rotors. There was still some squealing after a couple thousand miles of driving so I took my car back and complained even though I was now passed the mileage and time for warranty. Anyway, they looked at it and a chunk was missing out of the rotor so they did the breaks (again) and rotors for free. Not a bad deal I might add.....

See that's what I've read...the '03-'04 models had the brake warranty...either way I'll ask.

I think it is because those models had the Brembo breaks!! 05+ has regular breaks and no warranty!

^^^ Actually it's the opposite. 03-04 coupes came with Brembos and were not warrantied while the sedans came with Nissans high perfromance brakes that were. Brembos were dropped all together for 05+ but I am not sure if they are using the same brakes from Nissan after the mid generation update. I've been hearing good things about Hawk pads giving off way less dust but since they changed mine out for free, I'm still rocking the OEM>
