1: Supercharger!!

no seriously, FI seems to be the best route for gains. Well here is a pretty good list

1) Z Tube or Cold Air Intake 2-5 hp
2) Coupe Midpipe 0-1 hp
3) Crawford Plenum 5 - 10 hp
4) TechnoSquare ECU Flash
5) Grounding wires
6) High Flow Cats 5 - 10 hp
7) Headers (VERY expensive) 10 - 15 hp

get some lightweight wheels, breaks and lowersprings as well

note, most of these modifications will not increase power drastically. Expect the car to sound meaner, but not drive to much quicker. 5AT models usually show 230-250 rwhp with these modifications. This is no 4.6 liter V8 here! the VQ is tunned pretty well stock.

Welcome and enjoy the forums.

Yeah, that sounds good, Neal. I'll repeat what is in the Stillen catalogue about "stages" for the G. Here is the list from 03-06 G35 Sedan NA @6200rpm

Stage HP Gain Item
1 8-11 Intake
2 21-25 Exhaust
3 11 Headers
4 10 Pulleys
5 2-4 Grounding Wires
6 8 Flywheel
7 6-8 High Flow Cats
8 8-10 Race Pipes
9 10-12 Cams

Take the gains with a grain of salt please. This is just a reference, though the stillen site carries a lot of stuff for the G. The first thing I did was the Z tube and K&N. Noticable gains in power and sound. Next came the Motordyne 1/2" spacer and thermal isolator. Noticed a lot more midrange. The one thing that tied it together was what I should have gotten and not the K&N, was the JWT pop charger. That seemed to make all of the intake components work a lot better, it is highly recommended, or any other CAI. Next I need to get exhaust to get rid of that air. Good luck with everything, best advice is to use the search feature on this forum, let us know how everything turns out.

the biggest bottle neck in the exhaust is the cats. You will more gains by getting a high flow cat, than getting a full cat back exhaust.

Interesting, my next move is exhaust. What happens if I went with like the Stillen bolt on exhaust and got the cats cut out. There are no emissions in FL...

I am pretty sure that the cats will get you more gains than the stillen. but the combination of the two may be very nice as well.

Do high-flow cats increase the exhaust dBs very much? I want to improve the exhaust flow, but not by sacrificing too much of the sound level (I need stealth mods or my wife will know I am spending extra money on the G). Also, what to the grounding straps do for HP?

I am thinking K&N, 350z intake pipe, 5/16 Plenum Spacer, high-flow cats.

Thanks,

Briggs

Not sure about the cats and the sound, but about the ground wires. I am not all to sure, but I want to say Neal has installed them. I don't really think they increase HP any, but Neal said that he can tell the difference in throttle response, since the throttle is electronic. As for the K&N, I would go with the pop charger. I have those mods, and between the K&N and Pop charger, the Pop seems to bring the tube and spacer together better. The pop charger is louder though, but if you don't drive it hard, then the wife will never know the difference.

Cool New guy

Welcome! What Doggy Door said is a good point of reference, I got about the same gains with the mods I did (K&N CAI, Borla exhaust, pulleys, grounding kit). I realized almost 40hp with those mods and you can really tell. Now the Stillen exhaust 1st gen is loud but I hear they have toned it down a bit. I still like the Borla however, you cannot beat a million mile warranty! Good luck!

the only grounding wire you should get are Gordee's. He is a member on G35driver. search for "Grounding Wires" on g35driver, and you should find it. I really like the shooth power delivery the grounding kit brought me. All cars are grounded, you will notice that the G35's grounding wires are small. The GG kit wires are HUGE!. dare I say...i think my car is quicker

anyways. I have heard that you retain a quiet stock sound if you get resonated cats with stock exhaust. Its when you start to remove mufflers that the vehicle gets very loud. Stillen Exhaust + Cat delete = VERY loud...but in a good way. If you are getting test pipes, get RESONATED test pipes. Resonated test pipes will suck up the high db's so that your car will sound more like a Exotic V8 than some japenese rice.
