Default Detailing

Ok, some of this will sound like noobie questions and some will clearly outline my laziness, but here goes.

I've had my G since mid October. It's been garaged most of the time, though it does get parked outside when I'm at work. (4 days a week at most). I live in Seattle so we don't get salt on the roads and the winters are very mild.

I've hand washed it a few times and I've toyed with the touchless wash...but it's pretty crappy and hand washing isn't too bad, but it's pushes the envelope of my laziness. Much more than that and I'd prefer to have it done.

Which brings me to detailing.

As yet I have not waxed my G. As I mentioned it's garaged most of the time, and I've only put 4k miles on it since October, so it hasn't been overly exposed, but I'm guessing I should probably get on that pretty soon. Whats the recommendation for the first waxing...as soon as you get it off the lot? Later?

I'm inclined to just get it detailed. In addition to being too lazy to wax it properly, I'm pretty bad about windows, dash, seats and all the stuff I really need to do to keep it pristine. ...but I'm definitely not above paying someone else to do it for me.

I called my dealer and she told me that Infiniti has a (new) corporate detailing service. It's offsite. I probed to see if it was just a 3rd party arrangement, but she swore it was an actual Infiniti company. The cost for a full detail ws $229. I'm going to swing by and get the brochure.

My questions are, is it worth it? Has anyone used the actual Infiniti detailing service yet? Are they using quality products, etc? Were you happy with the finished product?

I live in the greater Seattle area. If I don't use the Infiniti service, does anyone have someone they recommend for a good detailing?

Any meaningful feedback here would be great. (Other than "Do it yourself ya lazy bastard!" )

Thanks,
B

Nothing wrong with that IMO. Many people have better or more productive things to do with their time. The only suggestion I have is get satisfied referrals whenever possible and be willing to pay a little more for a well established shop with a good reputation. Above all, do a walk around with the detail shop manager when dropping the vehicle and make him/her sign off on any pre-existing scratches, dents etc. Accidents can happen at any shop, and it is in your best interest to CYA in advance for any unfortunate surprise.

Cool Detailing

I have the paint buffed out and sealed twice a year to rid it of oxidation, and wax (well, actually the car wash in my area will give me a hand carnuba wax for $20: can't beat it) 4x per year at least. Am I anal about my G? You bet! But it still looks new and is 2 1/2 years old! I look at the car as an investment and want to protect it! I also keep a stock of McGuire's products on hand for any detail I need to handle.
