I think I burned my clutch today, it just stuck in second gear with the pedal in mid position by itself, for a couple of seconds between shifts (I was like in 6mt limbo), then it went into 3rd and I got that lovely smell. Question: have I damaged it severly? Still drives and sounds the same and there are no fluid leaks. It may have been a fluke but just wanted an expert here on clutches to explain to me what I may have done (if anything at all). Thanks. Oh and how many times I can mess up and not have it cost thousands?, as I know the clutch is not warranty covered. Thanks again all and cheers. This is a great website with a lot of great ppl who have a lot to offer. I am grateful.
Sounds to me like you just shortened the life of your clutch, that's all. I did the same thing one time when I tried to launch at ~4K RPMs without spinning
I doubt there's anything wrong but you can do this test to reassure yourself:
At 15-20 mph, put it in 4th, fully unclutch and bring the gas pedal to the floor abruptly (again, that's after fully engaging the clutch). If the engine revs-up, you need a new clutch, if the engine bogs down your good to go. If the real wheels light it up, either you've got mods we need to know about or you did the test on ice.
thats a good test, another easier test is from a dead stop like in a parking lot, put it in 6th gear and hold the clutch in, rev to about 3-4K and then drop the clutch, it should stall the engine, if the engine still runs and slowly moves the car, you hurt the clutch.
BTW, this is how you tell if you have shortened the play in the clutch too much after you adjust it yourself and are affraid of the clutch not fully engaging
Now I am scared to do anything. I tried Marquis' test and the engine bogged a bit so I guess I am ok, thanks guys I appreciate it. The last thing I need is a new clutch at this point after just spending $250 on the cat today. LOL. The cat is worth more to me than the car so....and don't call me sick! LOL!

$250 on a cat? wow, my friends give them out for free...
So, by saying that "the cat is worth more to you than your car" you mean that the cat can "satisfy " you more than your G? You're SICK!!!
Well, cars are inanimate objects that you control. The cat basically controls you; LOL. The cat and car satisfy me in extremely different ways, but cats can be costly just like cars. See, the animals in my household have always been family members so dropping even a couple of G's on the cat would mean nothing. You have to understand that point of view. The cat is wonderful, my G is AWESOME! My priorities are set correctly, don't worry.

I know exactly what you mean........I have a Boxer
I'm surprised more people haven't chimed in on this. I think the pressure plate on G sedans are too weak vs. the engine power. It should not allow for anything less than immediate and complete engagement during times of max acceleration, but I've spun and 'burnt' my clutch numerous times. Part of the trouble, IMO, is that I get the best hop-free launches with a tiny bit of initial slip in 1st. But I've been able to spin the plate in 2nd and 3rd as well. I tihnk Nissan NA cheaped on the 6mt and this is only one area of displeasure I have with it.
