right now i have an 02 audi a4 (quattro) and im looking into trading it in the spring for an infiniti g35 coupe or sedan. is one better than the other in the snow?? i live in upstate ny and the winters here can get pretty rough. seeings how this would b my main car i want to purchase something that will get me through the snow. thanks
One consideration for you since you are focused on traction in the snow is that the all-wheel drive version (G35x) is only available on the sedan, not the coupe.
The G35x is flawless in the snow. With the G35rwd, you might need to fill the trunk with sandbags, and purchase snow tires I believe. With the X, you would not have to worry about either. The X will also promise you safety on wet roads etc...as the wheels NEVER spin (well not never, but a whole lot less) The X is a VERY fun to drive car. Some people may say its more fun than the RWD
The only set back is the gas milege....
If I had to do it again, I would get the RWD tho...since it only snows here like 2 days in the year, but hopefully I will be moving to maine next year

I bet the x is flawless in the snow and a lot of fun at that. In another string, they were talking about the VDC, I had been driving with mine on most of the time, but with it off you can do doughnuts for days on a wet surface. Lotsa stoopid fun! LOL!
i personally do not like a AWD feature, since it can never be turned off. 4wd would've been better for the X. i prefer driving RWD cars, although 4 wheels turning could be a hell of a good time.
I have driven the past two New Mexico winters with OEM summer tires on my RWD 6MT sedan. Last year we had several good snow storms, and frankly driving was quite scary, especially going up some of the hills. I replaced the OEM's with Dunlop Wintersport M3's in November. Now it won't freakin snow. I'm thinkin of taking the G on a ski trip up into the Colorado mountains this weekend to see how it performs in the snow with the winter tires. I have been told that with snow tires, the RWD should perform as good as similar FWD cars. I was over in the Bavarian Alps over the holidays and it didn't seem like all of the RWD Mercedes and BMW's had to much touble in the snow when equiped with winter tires. The other drawback of the G35x is it only comes in AT.
If you value your safety winter tires will be required, and you would be well advised to put them on all 4 corners. We've seen record snowfalls in the past two years around here, but I haven't encountered any conditions I couldn't get through using 4 winter tires. Sure, the pucker factor will be higher than with awd now and then, but the car does just fine. Only issue is you have to switch off VDC sometimes in order to get moving without the fuel cutoff kicking in when rear wheels begin to spin. No biggie, and certainly not a deal breaker.
Coupe is "okay" in snow. I have a 2004 6MT with Blizzak LM22s on all 4 wheels. On packed snow, it's pretty good. VDC can get a workout, but it does the job. In much more than about 3-4" of heavy snow, it handles okay, but it's hard to get it moving. I think part of the problem is wide wheels need to push a lot of snow out of the way. I stayed with OEM tire sizes on the snows. If I had it to do again, I think I'd try to find some narrower rubber for winter. I live in NH, so we do get the practice. I always made it to/from work last winter. This winter, we had one snow that kept it in the garage, but mostly good news.
