03 Sedan auto with approx 26K miles developed a hard shift/slip from 4-5 in direct auto. Feels like a bad converter. Is there a known trans problem with this yr?? Occurs at approx 40-45 from 4th to 5th shift. I used manu and held 4th at 45 and now it appears to slip on occassion with manu mode. Any thoughts?? Dealer could not reproduce with wife 1st time with a tech on a 1hr ride. She took the service writer out and he felt and minor version of the problem.
Also own an 05 Sereng Sand Cpe with auto - no problems
Sounds like you need a trip to the dealer, if it's an auto it should be covered, unless you are out of warranty; you can also ask Kenny Chan who is a dealer rep in NY and he can probably answer you more specifically.

Not going to leave w/o resolution - My wife's car the sedan appears to be a magnet for problems - Wife was rear-ended last night by an idiot - bumper held up well but will need to be replaced. No injuries thank god!!
This car was once very smooth operating but has lost the feel of quality over the past 6 months - I will get it addressed this week. Tech will go on a 2 hr ride if that is what it takes - Easy to manifest problem now so I expect only 5 miles will show the evil.

Never before had I considered 2 of the same model but the Z was junk IMO (no flames pls) I wanted to like the Z but could not.
I considered buying a Z but after I drove it.....yecch! The G35 is sooooo much more a better deal for the money. Who cares if the Z has 300hp? Mine makes 320! (with my mods of course at the crank). I did find out something though: all along both the sedan and coupe (pre '05) had 280hp NOT 260 for the sedan and 280 for the coupe, they just underrated it, probably for insurance purposes. Now the correct figures are in for '05 and '06, the 6 speed DID get a bump last year as advertised. I guess automakers aren't so worried any longer with Mercedes engines making over 600hp in v12 twin turbo form! YIKES!

PAFGING SMOKE!! 04 Sedan Transmission problems - help please
Smoke, here is the deal;
While it is the wife's car I drive it on the weekends and find that the transmission will lurch at a speed of approx 45 mph - appears to be connected to a 4th-5th auto shift. Low throttle application at the time the difficulty manifests.
If I keep the rt foot in it there is no shift problem - often run it to 6K in 1st-3rd then back off in 4th if entering an open hwy or similar open area. With decent throttle application there is no shift noticed or certainly nothing I would find problematic.
It feels like a failing transmission or torque converter but given the normal shifts 1-4 it leads me to believe there is a lock up torque converter problem (1st guess). NO fault codes per the tech and I believe he was competent and spent 1hr with my wife months ago trying to get the problem to manifest. A delayed shift but not a full slip as in a badly failing torque converter like I had in my junk V8 Tbird.
If I drive it gently as described above I can obtain the undesired result almost at will. I also tried to lock it out of 5th via manu mode and one time recently it repeated the undesired shift.
I will visit a good dealer on Friday early morning so any help would be appreciated. I thought I read somewhere that the there is a known problem with some autos in the 03-04 yr which experience this condx - no known fix if I recall.
When you see your dealer, advise them EXACTLY what you posted here, the problem may be hidden, I think your description was dead on but for the mechanic/service rep to understand, you will have to describe all you posted here cargoman, how you shift and accelerate and when the problem manifests itself, they should then understand. I am betting on the converter as well. It just does not seem right. See, if you'd gotten a 6 speed, oh well, that's history. Print your post for reference and do not let them give you the car back until you are 100% satisfied. Don't go for "That's just the way it is." routine; they have tried that with me and I just tell them to dig deeper. Good luck, it may just need an adjustment of a sort. Could be simple or complex, but it appears there is DEFINITELY a problem. And it should be covered by warranty unless you are over 60K. Again, good luck, and see if Kenny Chan of Massaspequa (sp?) Infiniti can help you, he's the bomb!

HELP!!!
Cargoman/Gstring
there is no known defect for any of the G35 sedans as far as transmission is concerned. the only defect that the transmission has been blamed for, is for having a delayed shift in just about every gear. usually, the driver (in manu mode) will shift the knob into the next gear, and there would be about a 3 second delay until the gear finally decides to engage. this is a very common problem, with both the sedans and the coupes; it is the way in which our transmission were fabricated.
torque converters have not been described as a problem either. there have been cases of a "clicking" sound coming from the rear of the vehicle, sometimes that's an indication of a failing torque converter. do you have this symptom? if you do, then you should get it inspectioned immediately.
remember that our cars still have warranty, so try to avoid paying any charges which they might try to press on you. best of luck.
I recall oScottio had problems recently that may be similar. You might want to read the TCM (Transmission Control Module) and self-diagnosis test info in this thread . In addition to checking the TCM, other possible causes are noted below. Thought you would find the official up and down-shift speed points at 1/2 and full throttle helpful as well. Good luck.
