I think if anyone knows the answer to this it would be you...
I have a 2003.5 G35 6mt sedan. I have a Injen CAI, (for about a year with no problems).
I got excited about a Borla exhaust system and ordered it. I got it but have not put it on yet. I called a friend who owns a car repair shop that I have known for years. He knows more about cars than anyone I know. I asked him to put it on. I was surprised to hear him tell me that he strongly advised me to not install it. He told me about the Nissan cars he had done this to that required repair and adjusting when the 'Check Engine' light came on and would not go off. He said that the cars needed extensive adjustments by Infiniti.
Naturally, I am very concerned. Reading this forum, it seems like many others have done it and had no problems. My Infiniti dealer had no problem with the CAI. I have read here that the warranty would not be voided with the exhaust system.
Please help with advice!!
Thanks.

What the heck does "extensive adjustments by Infiniti" mean? Most CEL issues seem to occur with replacement of intakes or oem catalytic converters and the oxygen sensors, rather than cat-back exhaust systems. No disrespect to your friend or his abilities, but that certainly has not been the case with proper installs of Borla's cat-back sedan system from any of the G35 boards I've watched for the past 3 years. In fact, I can't remember even a single case of that being reported and the Borla system is probably the most widely used cat-back on the sedan due to it's price point. Absolutely no problems after installing my Stillen system either. My advice: you should have no fear whatsoever putting a Borla cat-back on your sedan, as many have gone before you and are thoroughly enjoying their new exhaust, not a dash light!
Dholly;
Thanks so much, I will go ahead. I knew you would be ablr to help. I always enjoy reading your posts and appreciate your response. If you don't know the answer you find it somewhere!
PS I am looking to install a Crawford plenum also- do you have any ideas/knowledge re this? (remembering I will have the Injen and Borla systems).
Thanks!!
The Crawford plenum would be a fine compliment to your engine related performance mods, ie., intake/exhaust. Keep in mind, however, that when speaking of 'performance mods', many people have a tendency to fall into a rut thinking about only engine related mods. Personally, some simple suspension upgrades would be (were) higher on my priority list than plenum. IMO, one of the best bang-for-the-buck overall performance mods is adjustable sway bars for only a few hundred$. I generally find myself flying flat thru many, many more corners daily than I do b@lls out acceleration runs, so that stands to reason. The sways make for a very noticable improvement even with the 6mt sport suspension.

That is YOUR opinion, but it has never been a brainteaser before. If I really expected you to be a mind reader, I wouldn't have put anything!
clue 2: how was i suppose to know?
It's pretty common designation on several G35 boards for the last few years.
clue 3: obviously, having 3 kid and dogs.
I actually went looking at the coupe, in part because of it's semi-usable back seat, but walked out with a sedan. Twice. Both the kids and dogs thanked me.
clue 4: i have a sedan too. which is why i asked
Saaay whaat? You gotta be the laughing stock, 18yo and pimping a 4-door down SoBe. I can't hold it against you though, it's a fine sport sedan and you were smart enough to check the 6mt box... right?
