Default Xenon Hid Question. Kind of annoying to a sense.

Alright, I bought a used G35 with 40k sedan for 18k. Except, my car was watered down, very base. Well come to see to it, my g35 didn't have hids either, so I bought a bmw ballast and bulbs off ebay to retrofit it. However, when I attempt to install in the top portion, it uses a h1 stock bulb, and there is no way for me to fit the d2r bulb that I have in the housing. How would i go about mounting them perfectly? SHould I hack the housing and dremel it for room, how would i hold the bulb? WHat ticks me off is that it says D2r on the damn housing, but I get no hids. and to make it worse, on the bottom of the headlight, there is a mounting point for the oem nissan matsushita ballasts. DId someone take it out or something? Seriously the guy that had it before traded it in for a 350z track

I'm not too familiar with the headlights, but maybe you should get the right size bulb? Hacking the housing with your dremel sounds like a really bad idea.

No! DONT DO IT!
It's illegal and HIGHLY dangerous.
HID's are designed with VERY different optics than Halogen lighting.
The way the reflectors are designed, the focal point of them, EVERYTHING is different. There is no spot for the ballast because the whole housing differs in so many ways.

HIDs need either a projector or a reflector designed for them because they do not allow ANY light above a certain aiming point. Installing an HID lighting system in a Halogen based housing will (because of different focal points and optical properties of the type of light produced) scatter light everywhere and cause tremendous glare for oncoming traffic.

Very dangerous and will not perform better than halogen. Find the HID housings from an HID equipped G35 and swap the whole unit.

edit: Did you buy bulbs from a BMW too? If so, they are not D2R, they are D2S. BMW never used a reflector system, and that bulb is not shielded from the unwanted light patterns that a reflector-based system will throw.

I usually hit up the service department at the dealership before I decide on something.

That is GENERALLY a good idea, but often times they won't support aftermarket modifications even if they better the car...
