Angry 2003 g35 dead radio/climate control

I have a 2003 g35 sedan and over the last few days my radio is completely dead and will not turn on. Also, over the past few months, my climate control comes on automatically periodically and none of the buttons on the center console works! What's the best solution for this without going to the dealer? Please help!

buy a new AC controller/double din face plate and go with a double din aftermarket radio.

you are by no means the first this has happened to.

Is it a Bose system? My in-dash changer stopped working and wanted to keep the discs. Took it to Infiniti of Nashville (TN) and they replaced the whole thing w/ a refurb unit and did it under goodwill. They actually gave me a loaner for the 3 days they had it. Might be something to look into???
Good luck!

mine happened that way too but i had to call a radio mechanic who worked on the radio and every other thing took care of itself.

Whenever I have any electical issues with any of my cars the first things I check are the fuses and relays. They are always the cheapest and easiest fix. I'd start with those and then move on to the connections/ground wires and if that doesn't fix it I suppose the dealer would be next move.

Definitely true, it's almost never 'just a fuse', but if there's a problem and I find that it's just a cheap, little fuse or relay I'm always happy I started there instead of dumping money into unnecessary parts. I just bought my first Nissan product so I'm sure you guys have a ton more experience with their little quirks than I do.

Your logic is sound. Nothing wrong with checking the fuses first.

I see you own a Ford so you probably have plenty of experience troubleshooting

You know it's the craziest effin thing but, I have not had an issue with this truck, ever. It is a '97 but with only 60k on the clock (that's right original miles, this thing is rarely driven), and the fact that it's the work/standard model with a manual transmission, manual windows/lock, and no options other than AC means that there really isn't anything to break. Apparently the key to keeping your ford from breaking all the time is to never drive it . Spread the word!!

I like your theory!

back in high school, my sister's 87 escort caught fire under the hood while parked in our driveway. She went back out after just a few minutes of being home and came back in saying her car was "glowing". The fire damaged some coolant hoses, the alternator, some wiring and few other little things.

When I was putting it all back together the new alternator came with a new connector pigtail and a warning saying to replace the pigtail due to fire hazard. The alternator appeared to be the worst burned area and the center or what was burned.

A buddies ~90 F-150 caught fire under the hood here at work. Not sure if he ever figured out why. enough of the harness was damaged he just had it turned into a big cube.

My dad's 97 F-350 will cancel the cruise control if you use the turn signal.

I'm no Ford fan...

Radio Bezel and HVAC controls...Fun.

I drove this car for almost 2 years with this intermitten problem; some days it worked, other days it didn't. I understand the Bose amplifier causes the issue somehow.

Here's the bottom line, it was a slow circuit failure. It wasn't until a couple of months ago that it failed permanently. The dealership wanted $550 bucks to replace the radio. I actually removed the entire center console and went to work.

I'm sure the smart folks here probably solved this and posted...I'm just doing it for redundancy because this drove me nuts.

BCM Check; when this failure happens, it shouldn't be the BCM. However, the system acts funny because the controls cannot communicate with the BCM. (Fortunately, if it was the BCM it would cost me only $317 to fix. For a BCM, that's wickedly cheap. Thanks NISSAN!!)

I believed I was doomed to have this fix by the dealer, who was going to charge me anywhere from $600 to 1400 bucks to fix. I had taken apart the entire center console and was actually preparing to ship to that fella on Ebay who repairs the circuit. This would've cost about $200.

I DIDN'T KNOW COMPANIES WHERE BUILDING CENTER CONSOLE KITS FOR THIS CAR (2003 G35 SED)

I went to Mickey Shorrs in Keego Harbor, MI and spoke with Mike, and this cat replaced the center instrument panel with a new one (with working HVAC controls). They dropped in a Kenwood KDC and now I can play nearly every media known to man kind; USB, Iphone, and a Blutooth Audio device. Also CD DATA and CDDA...etc. I can also make calls without lifting up my phone. I'm calling them up next to have them drop the kit in the 35 which allows the infiniti steering wheel controls to manage the radio. (Gotta Have)

Yes, I spent a little over $600 bucks but this is an initial investment which alternately would lead to ineveitable failure with the dealer fix. (as I understand it. one guy explained it may fail again in a few years.) I can drop any new piece of aftermarket equipment I want. I've paid for the console piece which adapts the vehicle. PLUS I have new tech in the car...no more ancient CD's...and honestly fellas...I HATED THAT BOSE SYSTEM. 1 minute it would play the CD, the next minute it wouldn't.

The only edge that bose system had was; it sounded pretty good and it was pretty loud. What was it over 200 watts?

But, the KDC I just dropped in sounds way more crisp. The only slight fustration I have with the KDC transplant is that it doesn't push as much power out of the box. But I will probably drop a 5000 watt system anyway, you know...for the kids.

The console replacement looks like a GM console...you know... rubber buttons. But they each still have the LED and it looks good. It doesn't make the car look cheap, given the situation I have no complaints. {The inifinity version has PC-ABS plastic buttons, with chrome trim around the temp control, and the LED.} I was amazed at the color matching as well. The company that built the new console was spot on with the paint, and it doesn't look out of place when it mates with the original shift plate just below.

I can't even tell you how happy this makes me. I hope someone out there finds this useful!!

The cheapest fix would be to find a good used radio with the AC controller to install in your car. You need to get the same head unit as the one in your car.
