Default AWD: G35 or GS350?

You guys probably think I'm crazy for asking this question here in "Infiniti" forum, but I really need to find out what is your opinion about '07 G35 AWD vs '07 Lexus GS350 AWD? I really hope I can get some unbiased opinion. As a background, I own '07 Lexus ES350 and with all the problems (have you heard about Toyota/Lexus 6AT tranny shift flares?), I might be given a second chance to either get another Lexus or take money back. I test drove GS350 AWD, and its a dream car. I know its about $7k more than '07 G35 AWD. Can anybody help me with this? Has anybody driven new G35 AWD? I have been inside of '06 G35 and it felt really small inside...

Why do you want an awd car? Do you live where it snows a lot? The awd premium is fairly high, so make sure you absolutely need it. When I was looking to get a car, I wanted awd, but I think I am happier with rwd. Anyway, I don't think any one is familiar enough with the 07 awd, as the car just came out. Neal376 has an 05 awd, he also had the dealer install a switch so he could turn off the awd when needed.

Well, I guess I can reply and answer to my own question in here since this morning I test drove '07 G35x and '07 M35x. I need either FWD or AWD cause I'm on East Coast in Jersey, and we get TONS of snow and ice!!! I have test driven IS250AWD and GS350AWD for comparison, and very close to making a switch from my '07 ES350 to '07 GS350 AWD.

About my impressions of test driving both '07 G35x and M35x. Well, '06 G35 was on the same comparison level as Lexus ES or Acura TL. This year, it was redesigned to be on the same level is Lexus IS350. G35x looks very good outside and has more Lexus-like details inside. Love that CF mp3 player slot As others mentioned, its warmer and richer with higher quality leather and wood panels. But, to me if felt a little cramped up (I need more space in the back for baby car seats). I also didn't enjoy a VERY tight steering, felt like a typical German car. Also, acceleration not as smooth, felt gear shifting which is also typical for a sports car. Another comment, even so it was AWD, it felt lighter. M35x, is a tank Great big roomy car, very slow acceleration, more of a luxury cruiser handling. Both a great cars, but in a different category what I have been looking for. Just my opinion, please don't get upset or take it personally Will probably going to be making a switch to GS350 AWD.

BTW, my previous car was '98 Altima SE, it was a cool little car and I think Nissan/Infiniti makes great cars!!!

Cool

Too bad; he'd have much more fun in the G, it's a blast to drive, whereas the Lexus is well....um....just a Lexus (no personality).

The GS is tight as hell. I've been in one and I was shocked to see how small the cabin area was. Pretty big car with not much interior space. Oh well to each his own, but the G will do circles around the GS anyday

AWD Skyline vs. AWD Aristo...

I would say go w/ the Aristo, but those sh*ts are pigs. well bigger pigs than our cars already are... plus the III Gen Aristo is souless, now if they made an AWD II Gen... now we'd be in business!!

... go w/ the Skyline, one acronym ATTESSA-ETS... RWD when you want it, AWD when you need it!!

Seems like he was comparing apples to oranges with the G and the GS. Maybe even so with the M35. Seems like a more accurate comparison would have been to the M45.

Almost forgot about this thread. Of course, I did realize posting is a super biased G-community was not the best idea LOL!!! When you guys visit our ClubLexus place, you will get shreaded to pieces making any similar comparison. So, thanks for being gentle in here

Overall, you are right, I was comparing apples to oranges. Often, that is what you have to do shopping for a new car with so much selection. GS350 AWD for me is a luxury performance car. And, with 3.5L V6 and 303hp @ 6200 and torque of 274 @ 3600 ft/lbs and 0-60 around 5.5 sec, its one fun car to cruise around in with one heck of an efficient luxury performance engine

Cool

I agree it is a nice car but so blase' next to the G....IMO. 5.5secs? I think not, maybe 6, remember the GS is heavier than the G by several hundered pounds.

I don't think you'll hear anyone in here say the GS is not a nice car. It's nice to be able to have choices I'm sure.

Lots of ice and snow in Jersey ... LOL.

What do you get 20 inches a year? We get upwards of 150" a year, worse weather than you can imagine if you haven't been out of Jersey. 17" a day is a normal snow fall here, it doesn't even close anything.

I have a rear wheel drive coupe, I don't have any problems. You don't need FWD or AWD, all you need is snow tires ... and maybe a driving lesson.

I'm sure I can be a smart arse too and reply that "if I need driving lesson, I can ask your wife or gf for that", but I will be a better man and will not say it LOL!!! I'm close to the shore, and we do get lots of nice layers of ice and snow. And, when that happens, nobody hear declares a "state of emergency" and closes all the roads and workplaces like in upstate NY. None of my friends with RWD take their cars in a bad weather, and most of the time have two sets of stock wheel/tire and "summer" big wheel + rubber band tires. Regarding 0-60, usually Lexus is very concervative with their numbers. My previous ES350 was rated at 6.7 0-60, while C&D and some other mag did a test to determine it to be close to 6.2 sec. GS350 is rated at 5.7 (RWD) and 5.8 (AWD), so I'm thinking 5.5 is more realistic, if not better.

I'm not being a smart ass - according to the National Weather Service, you get 28 inches of freezing participation a year. That's less than Columbus, Ohio. We average closer to 100 inches (NWS), but a we've had over 150 inches in 4 of the last 5 winters.

I've only seen roads close around here when a single storm drops 28 - 56 inches of snow on the road, and the snow has to be hauled off the roads with earthmovers. Where do you think upstate NY is?
