When i finally take over the world... the age of teachers will return!!
Educators will be the superstars again!!

... funny how the people tasked w/ taking cars or our cubs & molding, instiling, & teaching them the skillsets necessary to advance ourselves are paid pretty much dirt... but some individual that probably 'don't read too good' but can catch a ball, or throw a ball, or do something w/ a ball is paid ridiculous sums of money to play, sh*t that should be done in spare time for free as a means of entertainment & keeping fit... sorry that's not a f*cking job!!
Then there are the actors... you are getting paid to pretend... sh*t i do that everyday, come up in the office & pretend i really want to work here, i care about the mission, i am everyone's friend, the go-to guy, & i don't want to cuss each of you out individually... kiss my rebel *ss!!
There needs to be a paradigm shift for good lads, poeple actually doing stuff of value need to be paid!!
We have to fight the good fight... now all i ask is... who's w/ me??

In most districts the teachers aren't so much the ones needing a raise (starting pay should be higher though) as it is the support staff who work more hours and keep things running so that the teachers can teach.

Hmm... I might have to disagree with you on some points here. Principals at my school is supposed to be considered "support staff", then why don't they support their staff? One day, an 8th grade girl told me "Fuck you" because I kept her sister in after school for acting up. I took the girl to the principal and assistant principal and all they had to say was " Ms. A, you are not in Torrance anymore. You are in Compton. Kids will be kids." I was shocked at this remark. WOW! Mr. Principal, you are getting paid 120,000 dollars to sit behind your desk and not support your teachers. Thank you. I think administrators get paid way too much. When I first started teaching I got paid 38,000 dollars a year. The average teacher now gets paid at about 45,000 dollars a year. After taxes, that is nothing. They take out 1,400 dollars out of my paycheck each month!

Yikes I need to be quiet now! Maybe I am just miserable at my district. It is run by morons. Thank goodness, this is my last year there.

I consider support staff to be the janitors, grounds crew, maintenance staff, cooks, secretaries (though some of them that have been around forever earn major $$$), etc. Principals, administrators and teachers older than time itself aren't included on needing raises.

I get pissed when I hear the long term teachers around here complain about raises because the newer teachers got a higher percentage of a raise than them even if it was the same amount. Cry me a river Mrs. History teacher making 70-90K a year working 195 days that your 2K bonus/raise was a lower percentage than that of the 2nd year teacher.

45k a year is not enough. I made that much when I was a temp for First American as an Accounting Technician... I didn't even have a degree at that time.

But for those claiming that you don't need education to make $$$ are dead wrong. Unless you're gifted of course.

I have a friend that claimed all you need was experience. That was 3 years ago. He was making more then me at the time. I now have my degree, and I now make a lot more then he does. Guess who's trying to go back to school to finish his degree. But seriously, the competition we had back then agasint each other was a lot of fun. I end up having the last laugh though.

Hey Phelan, can you say, "pent up frustration"? Hey it's ok. You got a closet full of rifles and ammo that'll fix that right up. Remember get the long-term teachers who complain first. I'm sure I don't need to remind you... 2 to the chest and 1 to the head!

believe me, you heard wrong.....most salaries are not that good. the only places that teachers are getting paid well are in the smaller affluent towns in Westchester County (Scarsdale, White Plains, Mamaroneck, Rye). NYC public school teachers? HA! they get chump change. you would think in the richest city in the world, the education budget would be enough to provide kids with new books and teachers with decent salaries.

Believe it or not, the education system is failing NYC kids. Parochial schools have it even tougher out here. The Archdiocese has closed down so many schools in the past 2 years it's ridiculous.

Quite possibly, but you have to admit it's a fairly good deterrent when dealing with a group of people. Put a round through a guys junk after already shooting him in the chest, his crew'll think twice before screwing with ya.
