Matching Paint
Hello everyone,
I just purchased a 2004 G35 in December. The color is Brilliant Silver. A couple weeks ago, I had a bus merge into me. The damage was minor and I've had it fixed. The front right fender was pushed in above the wheel and a wheel was scratched. The panel was replaced and painted. To a normal observer, the car looks fine but since I know the panel has been replaced and painted, I can see an obvious difference in the paint. It doesn't look as though the paint was blended into the door so there is a noticable difference between the door and the front panel. In some light it looks worse. I had my wife look at it (I didn't tell her what she was supposed to be looking for) and she didn't see anything wrong until I told here to look for a difference in the paint color. She then said the new panel looks more silver than the door. This is exactly what I thought. Is this the best that a body shop will be able to do? Should they be able to match a color exactly (or at least close enough that you can't tell)? Is it possible to get factory paint from Infiniti or will all body shops just color match?
Also, the insurance wrote up the repair on the rim as a replacement with a new OEM rim. The new rim looks identical in paint color but there is all kinds of overspray inside the rim that isn't on the other three. The lug nut holes aren't painted either. You can see where paint was sprayed into the holes but it didn't cover the entire area. Also, the wheel weights are different and on the inside edge of the rim instead of the outside. Would this lead anyone to believe that it is a refurbished rim?
Thanks in advance for your input.
