Default Service Engine Soon light

So my service engine soon light popped up, I thought it was just the filler cap and i tightened that down but it still hasnt gone away. The information thing says its either the fuel filler or an emissions problem. Now I just got my headers and exhaust installed so I was wondering if it could be aproblem with that. But its aftermarket parts so if I bring it to a dealer theyre probably going to give me some crap about it. Any suggestions as to what i do?

I agree that your aftermarket install is probably the cause for the emissions warning. I thought that there was a sensor by/in the headers/cats that monitored this sort of thing.

If the sensor was not replaced correctly/reset, then most likely that is the reason for your warning light.

The dealer might give you crap, but keep this in mind:
1. They cannot void a warranty, only a manufacturer can and then only after proving your modification is somehow causing damage to the product.
2. Give the service manager a call before you go in to feel the waters. Regardless of what he/she says, you'll have to take the car in sometime and switching out your headers/exhaust is not an option (too much money for labor).

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

If it just came on after the work was done, if you had a shop do it take it back and make them fix it right. Chances are there is something loose or you have a small air leak. Possible they forgot to connect a sensor back up.

Also don't give up on the gas cap too soon. I heard that it might take a couple of cycles or miles for the computer to re-test the sensor and find all is good. Works this way on my truck, after changing an injector the light was still one then once the computer ran the test again it fixed it.

Also if you started the car without hooking up all the sensors, (also did this one time with the truck, had the intake tube off while doing a body lift and needed to more the truck a few feet up the driveway) the computer caught the code. After I drove it like fifty miles and staterd it about ten time it went off on the next computer check.

AZ-G35 is correct, but here is another idea, I don't know where you live but alot of auto part stores around here (like AutoZone) have generic scan tools and they will hook up to your car for free and tell you what the code is and then they can erase it for you. That will also turn off your light, but be sure and write the code down. This way if it is the gas cap code your home free, if not at least you will know what it is. And don't worry, they cannot hurt your car due to the fact that the scan tools they have will only read and erase codes. After you drive the car awile if the light comes back on then go to your dealer or a GOOD repair shop to have the problem fixed, also knowing what the code is may help you if you decide to go back to the people that did your aftermarket install to prove that they caused the problem
