Default Your rookie English friend pleads for help again

Need winter tyres and have just spoken to my local Infiniti dealer in West Chester asking for winter tyre options.

Typically unhelpfull he said that he can get me Pirelli's at $235 each plus $45 to fit and balance the lot. No options on any other tyres and that was it.

Is this a fair deal?

Another question I had was as I am not going to be in the country long and may sell the car soon I am not too keen to spend a hell of a lot on the car now. Would I get away with just putting winter tyres on the rear.

Any suggestions/help welcome.

Cheers, UK_G35

www.tirerack.com
www.tires.com

either of those sites will have good winter tire/wheel setups for you. Don't go through the dealer ... they're yanking ya. Don't put winter on the back and keep summer up front...very bad idea. The summer tires don't move in snow or ice....you won't be steering anywhere

edit: get 17" wheels and tires if you decide to buy wheels as well which seems the best option for most of us. 17" wheels are narrower.

I picked up some Michelin alpins for about 150 a tire. I must say I am very impressed with traction in the snow and ride quality when there is none.

Yeah, you can get Top Gear on DVD and it's also a magazine. The guy who presents it Jeremy Clarkson, also has his own line of motoring DVD's.

Why, you like it?

I love the series. Just finished watching the 04 season. I've seen a few of Clarkson's series. I've read a few editions of the mag too ... best auto mag IMO. Just can't find the dvds in stores around here.

about tires ... go with brigestone blizzak. they can be had for about $150/tire also. Only thing is good luck finding winter tires at this time of year. Most places are sold out for the season

Friend of a friend. I've learned there are other ways to get the hook w/o having and established connection though. Get a quote from one company and take it to another to see if they want your business. Just tell them you'll go with the other company unless they can beat the price. The markup in tires is absurd so they definitely have the ability to help you. This is how I got about $250.00 off tires for my other ride.

Good luck
