Saw the old thread about the Bose CD player skipping when the car is cold. My CD player has been skipping for about a month now, and I finally decided to call the dealer to ask about it. They told me that the CD player will skip if I play CD-Rs, and that the owner's manual tells you not to do this and to only play store bought CDs. Once the problem starts, there apparently is no way to fix it except to replace it with a new CD unit. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this really true?
WOW - pardon my French... but are you fucking kidding me?????
so, they are saying that once you play a burnt CD that all cds will begin to skip and the problem is not fixable except for getting a new unit?
in my case, that might make sense (as crazy as it sounds), because when i first bought the car it worked fine even in cold temps. it wasnt until later it started doing it and got worse. and actually, funny as it sounds - i remember when it started - right when i burnt like 3 cds and played them in the car. those didnt skip right away but my other "real" cds began to - then it was downhill from there.
this is bullshit! not to jump the gun but if theri gonna say that this player can't play burnt cd and t cause the cd player to break - i will be fucking pissed! a $40,000 car that isnt with the times???? eveyone has burnt cds - and even legally. i've had an expensive home audio burner for years now... and i own alot of rare cds that i have been making copys for to play in the car (so i don't scratch the original)
this is bs. sorry if i'm jumping the gun - this whole subject has just been pissing me off tho.

Sounds to me like the dealer is handing you some bs. I don't know exactly how a CD player works but I don't buy that playing a CDR will damage the player. I've had other head units and portable cd players and they all had that same bs warning about CDRs but they never skipped
there actually is a difference between a professionally made cd and one made at home (cd-r/rw, etc) they are encoded differently. there is a possibility that it could interfere with processing chip somehow....
i used to be VERY big into CE - not as much now as used to be. i've never heard of this type of thing happening... but it obviously is a possibility since everyone is having a problem. shit like this does happen with CHEAP electronics.

I stand by my belief the skipping has nothing to do with what types of media we're using but rather the craptacular quality of the Clarion units we have. I miss my old Alpine head unit
well either way, we all agree that it is obviously a huge POS.
can we all complain or something so Infiniti does something about it -- like get us ones that WILL work?? i could buy a $12,000 Kia that has a working cd player... but a $40,000 Infiniti with cd players that don't work.... wtf??

hey about this bull shit cd problem, well if our cd players can't play burnt cd's then how do they expect us to play mp3s for some of us that own 05? don't we have to burn mp3s if its going to be a mp3 disk and arent all mp3 disks cd R?

Does the 2005 sound system specifically say that it can play MP3s? Maybe they figured out that the inability to play MP3s was a big problem and fixed it for the '05.
I should also mention that the dealer is going to cover the replacement unit under warranty "this time." They ordered me a new unit, and it should be arriving in about 2 weeks.
I'm thinking now that I should just get an IPod so that I can just play my MP3s that way.
Well the CD skipping on a cold car has started to happen to me this week. This is the first and only problem I've had with my car.
For those of you that have had this happen to you, was it only when cold, then it got better/disappeared when it got warmer......or was it there the whole time you are driving?
Right now it's only been popping up in the morning for the first 5 minutes or so, after that it's OK.
Also did it start like this then go to the dreaded total CD player error/lockup?
-----EDIT-----
Yeah yeah........the search function....it still sucks.

One last question, what did you do with yours (have them replace it)?
YES.... 3 times!
the last time finally seemed to fix it until it skipped the other day like crazy (in 90+ degree temps) but it was just the one time... i'm not gonna worry yet.
BTW - 72 degrees is not cold
sorry to keep bashing these players... but Infiniti really screwed up in choosing them.
