Thoughts on the GT-R unveiled in the latest SCC mag...
Aside from it being simply a G35 Coupe with AWD and some engine & suspension mods, we'll assume it has a different interior design as well.
Still, I'd be curious to see who can be convinced to pay nearly double the price of a G35 Coupe for those changes when the basic shell of the car still looks very much like a G35 Coupe. Oh it may be worth it from a technical perspective, but when you're talking $60-70k (assuming that pricing rumor holds true), it will take a lot of convincing for most buyers in that category to pay double the price and be driving around a car that still LOOKS very much like a G35 Coupe.
Nope, saw it on the newsstand, sorry. Picture a silver/gray G35 Coupe with a different front air dam, different wheels, higher ride height due to AWD, and in test form on a track. That's the cover of the issue.
I'm pretty sure I know which car you are talking about yacoub. While this is what the GTR test mule looks like now, I seriously doubt it will look like that when all is said and done.
It was way too easy to find out what the mule looks like now. As it gets closer to the release date, they'll start to work on the exterior more and do the fine tuning.

it looks just like the stock g but with a biffernt bumper and lip and a differnt wing a picture was posted a while pack in a topic it doesnt look like anything to special unless its got something nice under the hood
like GZ said the shell is just that ... a shell. I doubt it'll look anything like that when it's completed. Under the shell is a completely different car according to the reports I read. New suspension and chasis. They may not even use the VQ35 engine in there.
Well, I believe the relationship between the GT-R and regular Skyline is more like the relationship between M3 and regular 3-series. Nobody has problem paying nearly double for the M3 over 325, even though they look similar. If Nissan keeps the tradition, I believe the new GT-R will still have the M3 beat. I think people will be more than happy to pay M3 price for a faster car. Personally, I won't have a problem even if the GT-R looks very much like the regular -- although I really like the flamboyant looks of the R32-34 GT-R.

I agree.
If the GT-R keeps the current skin, it'll be an awesome sleeper car.
Like a really good looking version of a STi or EVO.(STi/ EVO can only dream to look that good.)
IMO, the R34 GT-R is the nicest design of all the GT-R's. The car's just classic with the exception of that ricer rear spoiler.

The current stock M3 is as fast as a stock R34. The new M3 will have 400 HP, so I'm sure it will still be as fast as the stock GT-R. I hope the GT-R does impress though. I'd like to see a Nissan supercar in the States!

Vanos, why am I not surprised that you came to the defense of the M3 . Both cars are amazing and have a good history.
However, historically, the M3 has been playing catch up in performance. The last year of the R34 production (the Nuerburgring edition) was 2002, and the E46 M3 wasn't even available until 2001. And before that, even the base Skyline has more power than the E30. And I don't believe the E30 and E36 have ever caught up with even the R32's "advertised (>)" 280hp. (Maybe the European version E36 has).
However, you are probably right with the coming M3. Due to the financial trouble, Nissan is having a longer elapse between the R34 and the next GT-R -- '07 seems like eternity.
I also have to say, I don't think these two cars have been really targeted for direct competition like this -- the E36/46 were civilized (but fast) sports luxury cars and the GT-R's were not. But I bet that's gonna change with the new GT-R. I believe Nissan will have M3 solidly in target with the next GT-R. And they will probably come out at the same time. It will be interesting.
I am a Nissan man, but partly only because BMW's are too expensive. I wouldn't put money on either one. But I know for sure that this competition is a great thing for us.

I'll never know how the current M3's compare to our cars. My friend shot down the idea of letting me test drive his car. Hey I only did 90 when I tested his last car......bastard.....
