is it just me..or do our cars eat shit when it rains..it may be the tires..but i dont know..can someone fill me in on what i can do to improve this...i live in cali by the way
I've noticed that when the Pilot Sports are new the rain doens't faze the tires at all. Once the Pilot Sports wear down the rain might as well be oil. Even worse is cold temperature+rain.
I've got about 6000 miles on my Pilot sports. I just put them back on again since the low will be above 34 for at least the next 10 days. I have to say that it is actually hard to get the pilots to break loose on the wet streets around here. They have much better traction than the worn out 17" Goodyear RS-A's I had in October. You really had to be careful when driving in the rain with those on...

I live in so cal too and have the same probs... too much power. I have a solution though: place an egg between your foot and the accelerator pedal! Problem solved.
DOHCtor Dan not to bust your chops, but it is a bad idea to go out and test the limits of your car in the rain......unless it's in a big open area, then I think it's a great idea to learn your car's limits. Just remember the tires on our cars are good for dry performance, but you add a wet surface to the equation and bad things can happen.

it seems like people in SoCal have trouble driving in the rain. am i the only one who specifically goes out and practices pushing the car in the rain?
I've done that once before. Went to my school's stadium parking lot but only spent like 5 minutes there before a cop showed and kindly flashed his lights for me to leave

It's good to know that that's all the cops would do. I was always afraid of what's gonna happen if a cop shows up.

Down here they'll ask you for your autograph and you get a date with some bitchy old guy in a black dress. The bitchy old guy will make you pay for the date too.

Oh ... I got off lucky. I know there's a few tickets the cop could've given me. Just hope you get a cop who's either friendly enough to let ya go or lazy enough to not want to write something up
lol, forgot to put in the "disclaimer" part of my post. before this gets out of hand...
i do this in the gated private parking lot at work when it rains and when it is empty when everyone goes home. the lot is long enough to do about an 1/8 mile drag and wide enough to spin out and not hit the walls of the gates/building. and its code entry only so no uninvited guests can come in and ruin my fun. i usually just do some basic stuff...i did some launching, just to see how well the car/tires catch before it starts to peel out and fish tail. i also did some hard braking to see how long it takes to come to a complete stop on wet surfaces. then i did some cornering...first using the heel-toe method to kinda see if i can actually corner well like that in the rain, then i tried pulling the e-brake (slow speeds first) to see what the breaking point is before i spin out. and some misc. other stuff just to get used to the extreme situations in my car. this being my first daily driven rwd car i'm trying to get used to the different aspects of it compared to my other fwd car.
anyways, that was the "don't try this at home" disclaimer for the kids. lol

SoCal drivers are bad enough without inclement weather, but when it starts to rain oh man...
I can't believe they closed I-5 near Castaic (Grapevine) because of snow. It had been closed since 2am and I was trying to get out of LA around 11am. They had 9 hours to throw some salt, or corn-based de-icer, or sand stuff on it. Yet the highway remained closed. SoCal is just so unprepared for anything but sun. 7" of rain causes highway flooding; it's really quite sad. They didn't think to build slanted roads so that water runs off.
