brakes are making funny noise.. no, not routine squealing.
No, it is not the normal squeaking of the brakes like most of you think... instead, it sounds like metal scracthing on metal, but very lightly... sounds almost hollowish.. it's kinda weird. try getting a manual pencil sharpener and just give it a few turns, without a pencil inside... the squealing sounds like that kinda...
This occurs while im braking.. and even occurs when my foot is not even on the brake. any suggestions on what this might be?
Maybe you knew this and had already ruled it out. But my guess is it's time to replace you brake pads. It's still a "normal" squeal because it's designed this way. There is a metal piece on the side of the brake pads by design. When the brake pads wear down below spec, this piece sticks out and rubs the metal brake disk -- metal on metal. This way you won't like it and will take it to the dealer. It would constantly rub the disk and make noise. But when you brake, it gets pushed harder against the disk and the noise gets louder.
Hope that's it. If so, you might qualify for a free set of brakes if your car is still under the initial warrantee. You can search for that info in the forums here.

Woohoo, gotta love that free replacement policy! Now aren't you glad you passed on the Brembos? As for the details - how many mile did you get out of the first set of pads, did they replace front, back or both, and were the rotors turned or replaced, etc.?
I'm glad I got the brembos even tho I have to pay for the pads. I'm gonna go to the nismo pads when the stocks are gone and ma that's going set me back about few hundred bucks
much of the time if you happend to slam the breaks, there is a lot of break dust, and sometimes break fluid runs low, so check on that before replacing the rotors...even tho its free, u might end up warping the next set...
