I sold my '03 5AT 350Z (owned for 14 months) for a used '03 G35 (owned about 3 months?) the Z handles better but it is not a practical car at all. I needed the extra two seats and trunk space. It's a good compromise between power, handling and practicality.

My ex E46 BMW rode back to the dealer several times on a flatbed with over heating problems.
First time I believe the thremostat got stuck closed, next time not sure, the next time the shop said the "hose clamp failed". A couple other problems and it was gone.

My friend experienced way more problems with his M3 than I did with my Prelude. Considering his car was almost twice the cost I would expect at least the same reliability (definitely not worse).

As far as electronics go, there are numerous cases involving 5 and 7 series cars. I don't believe these extend to the 3 series, but these are their upper and flagship class vehicles so you would think that these would exhibit the least problems.

So long as you ditch the beemers before your warranty is up, the cost isn't coming out of your pocket. Wait too long and you got to dish out some cash just to be able to sell your beemer.

There are no doubt issues, but like I said, it's a case-by-case thing. I had almost 4 years of relatively problem free ownership. I am part of many E46 (or Bimmer) communities, so I hear about all the issues involving the cars. I sympathize with those of you that did have issues. Warranty was the main reason I traded my M3. I had 34k, and the full-maintenance/bumper-to-bumper ran out at 50k, and I still would have had 2 more years on my lease. That was the deciding factor in trading it. Renewing both warranties would have cost over 3k, so I just opted for the G35 w/ a 6yr/100k warranty, and a lower payment. Yeah, I was upside down on the ///M due to only owning it for 2 years out of a 5 year contract, but overall, I'm happy with my G, and I'm happy to be a part of this community. =)

Damn, I feel like a gawd damn sap saying that!!! hehe

For what it's worth vanos, my friend went right back and bought the new M, plus his wife's got the 330.

Growing up he was used to driving the Legend (coupe and sedan) so he's got some experience with the low maintenance Acuras, but the M3 got its hooks into him and he's never looked back.

His love for M3's probably goes back to when he was driving me home in his Legend coupe. We were behind an M3 that lived near me. We are about 40 feet behind him, hit a corner and he is GONE. Heh heh heh, my friend was dead silent.[]

M3's a good car and I respect it, but I sworn a blood oath never to own a BMW.

I think you will find the shifting on the G is the same..... that is really my only complaint on the G...... and of course the limited cargo room which really saves you money in the long run as you can't really buy anything large, it will not fit in the car!!! If you travel a lot like me, your taking the shuttle to the airport for the long trips that require oversize luggage... but, again... it saves putting miles on your G and keeps wear down as it is in the garage most of the time..... (7K on my G currently, and it is 1.2 years old!)
