First day in the rain for my G today. Came up with a few observations...
1. The G enjoys to fishtail while taking turns in the rain. I was going no more than 30 and I coudl feel the back end just push out. There was alot of hydroplanning. Had alot of tire slippage.
2. Interior noise level was a bit higher than I would have liked to to have been, I know a few sturdy cars in our price range that get a nice quite ride in the rain. Granted our G's are coupes that may explain the reason it was a bit louder to me
3. I have no way to wipe the water drops off my back window! I never really noticed it until today, but our cars don't have a rear wiper...sorta annoying because I had to rely on my side mirrors to see behind me.
Other than that the car ran beautifully, had some fun in the puddles and came back home...to dry the damn thing off before waterspots appeard [!]

Are we talking regular old 90 degree turns here?
I could see taking those turns at that speed dry but in the wet I would expect the ass end to get a little loose.

My first day in the rain today going down 15 south to san diego. I actually felt a pretty stable ride, including around turns. Maybe I was going slower.

At 90 degree turns there was definatly no slippage...gripped pretty well, except for a few turns with puddles which caused way too much hydroplanning...these damn streets need to be leveled out....
But I experienced the fishtaling during some twisties...it wasn't something I would necessarily say is bad thing, I'm sure all cars do it...but the G was more prone becuase of the sheer power it exerts...but then again it was my first outing in the rain, not use to how it handles
Correction Legacy. Hydroplanning refers to the situation where you enter a big puddle with high speed -- much higher than 30, and the front wheels float on water, and you lose steerability. The rear wheels usually don't have a problem since the water is pushed away by the fronts. What you felt is good old oversteer due to rear wheel slipping under power on slippery surfaces -- they weren't really "floating" on water.
Anyway, this should be where the real fun begins. But it's also where the danger is. Hope you get the better part of it.

Nah Gzire...I'm running Bridgestone Potenza's...you think the tire really makes a difference here? If there is water on the road I would imagine no matter how much grip a tire has it's gunna expirience a little slippage
My first rainy day to... I love southern California. SInce we get so little rain, the first real rain makes the roads nice and slippery due to all of hte oil buildup. The VDC kicked in twice on my way home from work! The acceleration of this car is so powerful! I think its time to find an empty parking lot to play in...
Legacy I had a very unenjoyable experience with the Michelins in the wet. Probably had some diesel on the road that I didn't see. Less than 30, rear end brakes loose, and I'm into the guardrail. Total elapsed time was probably 5 seconds. Nothing to do but assume the position.
As good as the tires can be in the dry, put some water (and in some cases something else to break traction) on the road and you're hanging onto a raging bull.

I took this road home that has a bunch of twisties....usually when its dry I can hug those corners no problem, but today I was caught by surprise and decided to take it slow
I suppose rain can be fun but as Edge said it can also be dangerous
If theres rain tommorow I'll see how the G handles the 405 []

In racing, they say if you want to know who the best driver is , let them race in the wet. The reason is, when you reach the traction limit in the wet, that very limit drops quickly. It feels just like hitting oil on the road. That's why only the best racers dare to push toward that limit in the wet.
I'm not saying you are not a good driver. I think most of us are in the same league here. Like duds said, the first rain makes it really oily. You can complete a donut under 30 in 2nd gear with your car. Note, the fronts will be stable -- that's why you feel the car is under the limit when you brake and turn in. I'm with duds. Leave the VDC on on the road, when it's wet. When you have a chance, turn it off and go practice in an empty parking lot.

It is totally possible that it was power induced oversteer.
However seeing as how there was another accident not a mile away from me on the same road (exact same time as me) and another within several hours, I am strongly leaning towards someone leaving something on the road. It was a Saturday and would have been the perfect time for someone towing their boat for a weekend outing to be dropping fuel.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt on that. I'm sorry about the guard rail. I had a similar event long time ago when I was driving a Silvia, before I even knew it's a Silvia (or knew anything for that matter), but I was luckier and only damaged my ego.
