Default Speed Sensitive Control Volume (SCV)

I was just wondering about the SCV function for our head unit. I'm trying to figure out how to use it correctly. The manual just tells you how to use it but it doesn't really tell you what each level does.

If I'm driving about 70-80mph on the highway, then I exit and eventually stop, what level should I use to get the Head Unit to lower the volume to where you can barely hear it? Should it be High, Mid, or Low?

Also, do you have to turn this option on everytime you use the head unit, or will it remember what setting you put it to?

Thanks everyone!

Is that what that's for? I always meant to look it up in the manual, but never did.

i think you set it when youre stopped and it works from there... so if youre stopped and you barely hear it... then it should be that same level after youve stopped again. the volume of when youre actually in motion is what changes between the levels.

...i think. correct me if im wrong.

When the system is on -- high, mid, or low, it will raise the volume at higher speeds and lower the volume at lower speeds. High, Mid, Low just sets how much the volume will be raised/lowered. Both settings High and Low, will raise the volume as you speed up. But for the same speed increase, High will cause the volume to raise more than the low.

What you do is select one setting to start with. You can do this before moving, just for safety. Let's say you chose LOW. Then let's say you adjusted the actual volume on the highway to a volume that you like. Then, after you pull off the highway, pay attention to the volume. If it seems too lound, that means the SCV did not lower the volume enough for you. And that's probably because you chose the LOW setting. So select HIGH because it will lower the volume more when you slow down.

You go through this by trial and error. The right SCV setting should allow you to FEEL the same volume at any speed without manually adjust the volume. Since there are only 3 settings, you should be able to find what works best for you in 3 tries. Of course, you might still need to raise the volume manually when your favorite song comes on the radio.

Cool. I always wondered what SCV was, but was always too lazy to look it up.

Experience has shown Medium to be the best. High is too aggressive for me(maybe fine for you) and Low is not aggressive enough. Medium seems to work the best.

Oh and it remembers the last setting.

The volume is adjusted on engine speed, (RPM) not vehicle speed (MPH)

It'd be really annoying if it changed with engine speed.

Try this.... turn the SCV to high and take a rolling start in second gear and rev the engine to 5.5ish. That should bring you around 50 or so I believe. Now cruise at 55mph in 6th gear and tell me if you notice a difference. I may be wrong but I also tested this on the loaner car (5at) and it was the same.

Tried it and it didn't work. It does however increase with speed and not with the rpm's.
