Default Solution for 17" Coupe Rims Over Brembo Brakes

As a follow-up to my previous post:

I found some 1/8" (3mm) wheel spacers that fit between the 17" wheels and the hub at www.ezaccessory.com. On the right side click on the link for "4 & 5 Lug 3mm Thick Spacer" in the "best sellers" box. The spacers cost a little over $17 with a three day delivery - not a bad price.

I ran into a small hitch as there is an extra "stud" sticking out on the hub between two of the normal lug bolts that I didn't realize would be in the way. It turned out the spacer would only fit in a certain way, forcing it to be slightly off center. However, the spacers are aluminum and the offset isn't too bad so I didn't think it would cause any balance problems. I did a test drive up to 85mph to verify - no vibration! I suppose one could use a Dremel tool, etc to notch out a place for the stud to fit better, but I can live with it as is. See the picture:

Another concern in my prior posts was having enough threads to safely use the stock lug bolts. I was able to get 7 full turns before the lug nuts went hand tight (& a little more after being tightened and torqued to 80ft-lbs). From reading websites about spacers, this is enough to keep the wheels on safely. You should do your own reasearch on this, but I beleive it to be true...

The spacers provided around 5mm of clearance between the wheel and the brakes, which is definately enough to put my worries to rest.

I believe this is the solution for those who want to mount 17" coupe rims over their Brembo brakes for either dedicated winter or autocross wheels! At least it is for me!

I believe the bolt you are talking about is the one that prevents us from using our rear wheels on the front. It should not be a problem to remove it.

That being said since you are using spacers, I think it would be a better idea to drill (as you had mentioned) out the spacer where the bolt is located. Although there is no vibration, I personally don't like the idea of mounting a spacer off-center.

Yeah that bolt in the front comes off vey easily. I took mine off the front to put my aftermarket rims on b/c it hit in between the wheel spokes. A wrench a 2 quick turns it is off. I just have to make sure it goes back on when I put my stock rims back on.

I gotcha. I wasn't sure if that was something I could remove or not. I guess I'll just take it out when I put the 17's on again. Thanks guys!
