I realize there have been many hardships and unfair damages to the G's of several members, but I find the keying of Bienvenue's G35 especially vile. I would like to contribute a small amount to a fund to help him recover some of his deductible for the repair, or at least buy the next round of "cold ones". I bet there are several other people that also would like to give a little, and maybe even have a fund for other members' mishaps. Since you are the Moderator, could a fund be set up through the auspices of 6MT.NET? We could use PayPal, Checkfree or something similar. Let us know if 6MT.NET can arrange this. I will be willing to help in any manner you require. Anyone else wishing to contribute(every 5 or $10 is a generous act) please add a post or shoot a pm to VQ. If this is impossible thru 6MT.NET because of bylaws or regulations, etc..., then lock the thread and I'll sent him a check on my own. Thanks.
Not to be the contrarian, but while I think the proposed concept is fine, I'd quickly point out that there are MANY more deserving charities or causes toward which to put one's discretionary charitable dollars. For example I recently posted a link to the Red Cross hurricane relief effort. I'll forgo doing that again here so as not to hijack the thread. Any number of very important charities which could have a big benefit to peoples lives may be a consideration -versus- the clearly abhorrant, yet hardly life impacting damage to our G's.
If one feels strongly about helping out a fellow 6mt-er with a donation, there is always private e-mail (perhaps paypal, or a personal check) as a contribution venue.
Just a perspective on perspective. [^]
I'd be more likely to hope my $$'s went to someone homeless or in need of sustainance, versus some body work.
I don't want to sound like a pooper either, but I gotta go with Ffwd on this one.
While I think it is awesome that Rocket65C wants to do something nice to help out a fellow 6MT'er who had their car F'ed up by some A'hole, and I'm certain that Bienvenue is deserving of our help, it seems unfair to me to single out one unfortunate G owner over all others who have experienced similar damage or vandalism to their car.
Thieves and vandals deserve a place at the back of the line in the emergency room, to sew those parts back on that have been severed when caught stealing or damaging someone elses HARD EARNED property. But those of us lucky enough to be able to afford fine cars such as the Infiniti most certaiinly should be able to pay for the insurance that we must have to protect them.
It just doesn't feel right to help one person cover their damage knowing that there were others who came before, and certainly those that will come afterwards who don't receive our largess.
Sorry, Bienvenue and Rocket65C, if I sound like a pooper...but I didn't want to leave Ffwd as the only dissenting voice....
Rocket, I love the idea and would contribute myself. However, I can see this type of thing getting out of control and I would have to become the judge or whether or not someone's charity deserved to be put up on 6MT. However, if you would like to set up your own, or anyone who has such an issue, you can put up a page with a paypal link and post it. I will not lock or shut down the threads. Just keep them in the off topic forum, and that way it's up to the members to decide.
Such a gesture revives one's faith in the common man. Although your offer is tempting, I cannot accept. But I can say that your kindness alone is worth much more than a cold one. Besides, it could have been worse. Many thanks! Perhaps, we'll run into each other on the road some time (not literally I hope). Until then, take care of yourself everyone.
-Andrew Bienvenue
I'll cast my dissenting voice also. I of course sympathize with the people whose cars have been damaged, but come on, they're cars. If you want to help people, give money to a soup kitchen or a shelter.
Also, the question of who gets money would get way too thorny.

Before it gets any more maudlin, let me just say my intentions were to buy a round for a fellow 6MT.NET member who had a bad day, one to which I could relate. I of course realize it is only a car, and that there are more serious issues in life, such as people dying in Haiti, terrorism, communist infitration and sapping of all our precious bodily fluids, etc....(well, never mind that last part-Jaylin's suggestion rattled me) No disrespect intended. At any rate, regards offered, regards accepted. Too bad though, we can't give out T-shirts or the like as a gesture of good will thru 6MT.NET. Get rear-ended? Have a T-shirt! Have a nice day. Yea, sorry ol' logistics screw it up for everyone!
