I have a strange problem with my premium stereo. When playing FM radio the stereo sounds fine - it's clean, clear, no distortion, volume is linear, etc.
When I play a CD, I only seem to get sound from the right side. If I shift the balance 100% to the left I get a muffled, badly distorted reproduction of what I should be hearing. Switch back to radio - still perfect - back to CD and it continues to fail.
I have a Basslink installed, so I had the installers look at their work to make sure it's all clean - no problems, and the problem continue after the Basslink is disconnected (no surprise).
I write for two reasons:
There is a chance the dealer won't play nice on this. I really doubt it, the installation of the sub would have nothing to do with CD reproduction *specifically* while leaving Radio unaffected. Am I correct in this thinking?
Does this sound like a simple case of failed head unit?
TIA,
Kal.

i have the same problem..i took it to my local dealer and my service adviser thought i was nuts..he had to take a ride with me and wanted me to duplicate the problem...of course when he was in the car, the speaker worked fine...he agreed to order another radio unit for me but that was over six weeks ago..i got tired of waiting, so i took it into a differnet dealer and now i'm waiting again....
It sounds like a loose connection from the CD player to the head. I'm not sure if that's an actual cable or a solder joint, but either way it has nothing to do with your sub.

I'm very interested in hearing an update, I am experiencing the exact same problem. I also noticed that if I brake hard (or brake going downhill) I get sound back on the left side. I can confirm that AM/FM seem to not be affected. I tried to check the ESM to see if it mentioned how the CD was connected to the rest of the system and I had no luck. I too suspect that it's a bad connection.
I dont think it's related but I'm also experiencing another problem where if I listen to music for very long (20mins) above volume 18 I hear a loud buzzing from the front pax. speaker with a whine that changes with the engine rpm. It stays even if I turn off the stereo (but goes away if I open the trunk and physically unplug the amp) The problem is there as long as the engine is on or key is set to ACC. That seems to be an amp problem though, maybe its overheating...anyone else experience this?

same with me..i've discovered if i give the radio a good bang on the left side, the sound will reappear to the left speaker..but after a while my hand becomes sore...still waiting for my new radio..
The CD would have to be a separate input into the head unit. Since it is not an output problem on the FM...would make sense that a connection from the DA converter on the CD player to the head unit would maybe have come loose. (prob while you were playing with the VDC )

It's a CD changer prob, from what I hear from the dealer, our changer doesn't like CDRs. I changed my CDR disc from #1 to #6 slot and it works fine. regular cds work fine in the #1 slot. Are you guys playing CDRs or cds? The dealer (Metro Infiniti) says only the 6 disc changers have this problem not the (nissan)single disc head units.
man, had the same problem with my maxima. i believe our headunits are the same or atleast made by the same company. i think my unit is made by clarion. there is actually a tsb out for mine, but i went over the 36 thousand mile mark. so they are being d!cks. anyways go to this website and check out the tsb for u'r year. if u'rs is a 2003 there is like 15 pages worth of tsbs. www.nhtsa.dot.gov good luck man
lol...that is what i have to do. a couple of hard brakes here, a rail road track there. pretty much anything on the road that can make my car hop. it really gets me mad. especially if i am taking out a girl or something. 30 thousand dollar vehicle and the speakers don't work properly, so i just dont play cd's when they are in there
